we will throw a stinker out there one week, it is just bound to happen so when it does, should we drop as long as we win?

Good point. Plus, their dismantling of Georgia obviously has legs for the voters, which it probably should.

Let's hope we don't throw a stinker out there.
But it doesn't make since for Georgia to have won earlier this season, but they got dropped, and for Bama to have a struggling win but to not drop.
I haven't figured out the logic of the voting this season so far.
One week they drop a winner...a couple weeks later they don't

Not saying they should necessarily drop, but it's hard to give them a #1 vote after that game yesterday.

I see what you are saying but what if we go to Kstate and only win 35-28 or something like that, do you think we should lose votes?

I think if we struggle to beat a Kentucky caliber team AT HOME, we deserve to lose first place votes.

Yeah. How anyone could think that performance against UK was worthy of #1 consideration is beyond me. I'm fine with them being ranked #2. I just have a problem with them receiving #1 votes after that horrible showing. They scored 10 offensive points against Kentucky.

Either we've got 2 new volunteers for the latest "This is Your Brain on Drugs" commercial, or they're simply using their votes to stir crap up (this gets my vote) & I'm not just talking about where they put OU. SIXTH ranked Vanderbilt?

If I didn't really watch much football, I could see why that guy would rank Mizzou ahead of us. They beat Nebraksa, traditionally a Big XII North powerhouse in Nebraska 52-17. We beat Baylor in Waco 29-17.

But my point is after an opening game of beating Georgia Southern 45 to 21, that's when they got dropped a couple spots right? When they jumped succ all the way up to #1?
Or am I off on this?

How USC is still ranked that high after losing to an unranked team from a terrible conference is beyond me. Oregon State just got beat by Utah.... The media slurpfest of USC sucks...

OU-HSV
10/5/2008, 03:15 PM
The AP matters to an extent. But the ultimate poll that will matter is the BCS.
Now, I can't remember anymore, is the AP or the Coaches weighed into the BCS...or both??

I still say the AP matters. I mean the coaches are paying attention to the AP...and the media gives the AP all kinds of coverage and gets everyone talking about it (i.e. on fan forums, blogs, etc.).
It matters.

okiewaker
10/5/2008, 04:22 PM
I know this has probably been covered somewhere, at least I think but, USC has a way to go before they are in the picture for the NC and may not get there, the SEC will beat up on each other. What happens if OU and Mizz are BCS #1 and #2 going into the B12 championship game. Is it possible........?
Sorry if this has been covered but I don't want to go searching.

bri
10/5/2008, 04:32 PM
Then the Big 12 title game gets called "Game Of The Century" and whoever loses has to hope they lose close enough to somehow hang on to the #2 spot.

So many possible scenarios at this point for the title game. Missouri hosting Oklahoma State this weekend too.

The sheer number of kittens had by the media and SEC coaches would make 2001 look like 2003. :D

Not a chance. They just realize that not every week is an undefeated team potentially on a championship run going to mow down opponents 50-0. You're almost always going to have a game or two that's close and where you don't look as good as you usually have during the year. It has happened to you guys as well. If OU had beaten Baylor 3-2 I would have still voted yall no. 1 for the week. That's the way it works.

With our emotionally and physically draining game against UGA last week, I think most Bama fans expected a letdown this week, and that's exactly what we got. Also, Kentucky may not be a UGA or a Texas, but they're no East Popcorn State either, to borrow a phrase from Bottom- Line Bob. Most people seemingly have forgotten this is a team, for the most part, that beat LSU last year. They're not chopped liver.

Tulsa is legit. They would beat quite a few teams in 'major' conferences. It will all shake out in a few weeks.
