View Full Version : Tulsa vs. Rice
It's a beautiful night for Homecoming at Skelly Field, and it looks like the mighty 'Cane are wearing the red throwbacks again. These two teams may break the new scoreboard tonight. :D
According to CBSC announcer Aaron Taylor, Tulsa's offense is a run-first, play-action based offense.
Um, no.

i've got tu -15. please keep me updated after td's, which will be every 30 seconds.
TU receives the opening kickoff and have already driven out to midfield. God, I love this offense. :D

I'm going for Rice just because you hate me.
You flatter yourself, rando.

Everything goes with rice.
Brendan Marion dropped what would have been a 36-yard touchdown from national passing leader David Johnson, then TU goes for it on fourth down and doesn't get it. Rice ball at the Tulsa 31.
Rice goes three-and-out; punt gives Tulsa the ball back at their own 12.

I don't know what channel # CBSC is in other cable systems. Check local listings. :D
I'm watching it online, myself.

Well...that's a different deal all together right there.
I didn't see it anywhere from my provider...
I'm betting Cox made a special deal for that.
It's a regular part of Cox's normal digital package, I think. It used to be CSTV before CBS bought 'em.
Rice has a nice little drive going, out near midfield...

Tulsa 14 rice 7
Rice brings a spastic all-out blitz, and Johnson burns them by hitting a wide open receiver. 14-7, Tulsa.

There's some doofus that took the under on this game.
And is making himself look like a genius.
HURRICANE WARNING!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Tulsa just forced a fumble on a sack to stop a Rice drive. 'Cane ball, still leading 14-7.
Rice misses a long field goal, still 14-7 Tulsa.
I'm not gonna lie, I was expecting way more offense tonight. :D

How 'bout that hurricane D?
Graham's got those boys flying around the ball. Best I've seen 'em look this year.
And after more punts, Rice finally gets the tying score. 14-all, 3:06 left until halftime.
Johnson to Johnson for a touchdown! 21-14, Hurricane with a buck-eighteen left in the first half.

The Rice coach that replaced the one who is now the TU coach was at (Southwest) Texas State. He took them to the I-AA playoffs a couple of years and they have since slipped back into mediocrity after he left. He could build himself a nice stepping stone out of there like the TU coach did.
Tulsa has the ball at their own 33 with :17 and no timeouts. They'll probably still score. :D

HURRICANE HALFTIME WARNING
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Or not. Rice bats away a Hail Mary at the end of the half to keep it a 21-14 game in favor of Tulsa.
Rice gets the ball to start the second half.

I didn't evacuate. Or maybe I did...
*dramatic music*
I have no idea what just happened, but Tulsa scored on it. 28-14, Tulsa at the beginning of the 3rd. :D
And TU follows that up by intercepting Rice to get the ball back near midfield. Gus and the boys could break this thing wide open right here.

I gotta get me one of those classic jerseys.
Very swanky.
Johnson with another TD pass, and TU has a 35-14 lead now with 11:58 left in the 3rd quarter. :D

Yeah, one of the crappy things about being a small school is Nike doesn't mass-produce TU gear. I'd like one of those bad boys, too. :(

HURRICANE DEFENSE WARNING
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Nice stop!
Rice drives down to the Hurricane 20, but then the defense holds them on four straight snaps to force a turnover on downs. TU ball.
And David Johnson throws an interception to give Rice the ball back on the Tulsa 40.
Balls.

ttech gave me $50
osu got me $200
now i just need tulsa to get me $100 and the trifecta will be complete.
COME ON CANE!!
James Casey does his Tim Tebow impersonation, throwing an ugly jump pass on a short yardage play to bring Rice within 35-21 with 6:21 left in the 3rd.

Ghey. So Ricetastically ghey.
Hurricane Cat 5's this drive for 6.
Agreed, but I do chuckle every time they say "Thor package". :D

10/4/2008, 09:43 PM
Quit talking dirty, Thor.
Hey baby, wanna see my Thor package?
1st and 25 for the 'Cane, and David Johnson runs for 23. Nice. :D

Where was this madness, face-smashing badassery in the first half?
I dunno, but I'm glad it's here now.
If the 'Cane keep this pace up, OU's gonna end up posting the lowest point total of the three state schools today. With 49 points. Un. Real.

The real question is how TU gets Top 25 shunned again after tonight.
Granted it's Rice, but those boys are flying all over creation on both sides.

They may sneak in there, who knows? I know Stewart Mandell had them 25 last week, so they're gaining ground.
End of the 3rd, Tulsa leads 42-21. Rice will start the 4th punting from deep in their territory. :D

HURRICANE TOUCHDOWN WARNING
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O
Courtney Tenniel looks sharp, too. About time he found his wheels. He never quite backed the hype coming outta Glenpool.
Looking at the Top 25, numbers 23 and 24 lost today, so there's a couple of slots open in the poll. :D
And Rice manages to successfully execute a punt, but A.J. Whitmore busts a long run out of the Wildcat to set up a short TD run by Courtney Tennial to make it 49-21, Tulsa.
Tulsa forces another Rice turnover and has the ball at the Owls' 40.
TU's defense is playing lights-out tonight. :D

10/4/2008, 10:10 PM
Un-frickin'-stoppable. This is a Top 25 team. No doubt about it.
I'd take TU over State right now.
Whitmore with his second TD run of the night, and OU is officially the lowest-scoring Oklahoma team today. :P
56-21, TU with 9:49 left in the game.

BACKUP QUARTERBACK WARNING!

Stupid sportsmanship, keeping us from ringing up 70. :D
And A.J. Whitmore is the Player of the Game with 5 carries for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns. Um, okay.
And it's officially official, Tulsa wins Homecoming 63-28 to run their record to 5-0, 2-0 in C-USA play.
Wooty-woot!

I know it would never happen, but what if Tulsa and OU were the only unbeatens at seasons end. C-USA maybe the weaker conference but so is the Mountain West/WAC.
SUCK IT Pac 10. :D
I would love to see Tulsa take on suc...AND ROLL THEM!
Dude, if the college football world imploded and OU and TU played for the title in Miami, I don't think the scoreboard at Dolphins Stadium could handle it. :D
I think we've started the season too far under the radar to crack the BCS, but it'd be nice to sneak into the Orange Bowl and destroy some sh*tty ACC team...

Hmmmm, free shoes U....meh. Butch Davis and the Tarheels...I dig it but they are like TU too far under the radar at this point.
Virginia Tech? I doubt they want to play another team from this region there again after last year.
I would giggle like hell if somehow oregon played TU and we throttled them. :D
Well, the Orange Bowl matches up the ACC champ against an at-large BCS-eligible team. So a rematch of the 1989 Independence Bowl between Tulsa and Oregon can't happen there. :D

Apparently, Ball State > Tulsa.
