View Full Version : Dear Olevet and other car know-it-alls

I'm getting a God awful metal on metal clanking noise at random times in my 02 SVTfocus. I think I have found the culpret but I'm unsure what to do about it. Here's a picture of the driver's side shock/strut(?) mount:

And here's a picture of what the passenger side looks like and where the problem lies (I think) :

Notice how it is not seated down in the middle like the driver's side. I tried turning both the nut and the shaft part with an allen head wrench, but neither appears to make it go back into place...

Is there something I can do or is it time to head to the shop?

Looks Like that one strut is shot .
You can change em yoreself If you Know waht yer doing . If Not take it in .

What kind of truck ? Does it do it if you turn Sharp in Both directions or Just one ?

sounds like the muffler bearing is shot.

It's low on headlight fluid.

Its not the strut. Its the upper strut mount. Its a metal and rubber device that has a bearing assembly that allows the strut to rotate (the device that connects the 3 studs surrounding the top of the strut to the strut) The strut may be bad, but its likely the mount that has broken down and is making the noise.

Power Steering

i don't have power steering :confused:

it's weird though, it's not like any other car i've driven that doesn't have power steering

and it's 2WD
