Any of you San Francisco folks get together and watch the Sooner football games? My wife and I will be in SF next week for Fleet week and need to find a good place to catch the game. Any suggestions?

Ricky's Sports Grill in San Leandro: 15028 Hesperian Blvd, San Leandro, near E. 14th Street and 150th Avenue. Its not exactly SFO but its in the bay area.

Thanks Bombay. I will have to add that to my list of places to go while we are out there.

Any places closer to the wharf area?

Well, I don't know if they're in town, but the place that used to be called Candlestick is where they usually play.

You have to consider the time difference as a major factor here. My recommendation, and I have done this often, is:

Find a decent hotel with a spacious lobby...something like an Embassy Suites or Doubletree (the older St. Francis and Mark Hopkins aren't designed well for this) and there will likely be a lounge area that at 9:30am isn't being used. Most of the time the hotel staff will turn the TV on for you and let you watch your game. (act like a guest, if you aren't, buy food and drink if you can) The advantage here is, you have control and the place to yourself. The disadvantage is, you'll be by yourself and may or may not have access to food and drink.

In California, normally the cable (usually Comcast) systems show the FSN Southwest BigXII game first thing in the morning, as the West Coast teams don't start playing until 1pm CDT, long after our game will be over.

The wharf area never had much in the way of sports bars until PacBell Park was built and they will undoubtedly be closed that time of day anyway.

You might find somewhere along Market St. as well and you are lucky this is an early game, otherwise baseball would be on all the TV's....not much NCAA following in NorCal.

Good luck.

There are some great pubs on Embarcadero which will probably have the game on. Hooters on the Wharf, Jacks at the Cannery will probably have it, if you are cool enough and your wife is hot, you can watch it at my house in Millbrae. LOL:D :D :D

I'm going to request that you stop posting in this thread.

Moving on, because I'm sure the rest of you figured out from my embarrassed smiley :O that I was making a very weak joke to get you all to come back to Oklahoma to watch, there are two clubs in California - the OU Club of San Diego and the OU Club of Greater Los Angeles. Realizing that San Diego is almost across the border, here is some info on the LA club. It might be too far to go to their party to watch, but surely they would have contacts in the San Fran area to help a fellow Sooner out.

The president is Joe Storm, and he posts frequently over at the OU Insider board. The contact number for him off the OU site is 310-597-9291.

Here are several venues the president posted at OU Insider in California to watch the OU game at:

Here is the information for Yankee Doodles for everyone that will be able to make it to Santa Monica:
1410 3rd Street Promenade
Santa Monica, CA 90401

I really do hope that you're able to make it back to Oklahoma for a normal timed game (For anyone complaining about 11:30 a.m., just remember that west coasters have it at 9:30 a.m., hehe). In the meantime, hope you can catch OU rout Baylor! :)

Actually I live in Texas and will be travelling to see my team play this weekend in Waco.

I will be in San Fran next weekend for vacation, but did not want to miss the game. I will hit up one of the sports bars mentioned above if it is not broadcast nationally on ABC.

I'll reiterate what I wrote above. They won't be open at 9:30am.

Have a plan B.

Just look for a Rainbow flag and go on in. I'm sure they'll welcome you with open arms, they might want to go shop with your wife though.
