Ok I havent posted here in years but i have a question about the currently installed version of the bcs...and sorry if this is a total n00b question but i cant for the life of me think of the answer. so lets say usc wins out, wins the pac 10 and gets to the plus one game. would the pac 10 get to put another team in a regular bcs game or would usc count as their automatic bid? does this make any sense?

the Rose Bowl would get another pick, likely the #2 Pac-10 team, if eligible

only if they are ranked in top 12 though right?

^Yes. The National Championship game is BCS #1 and #2. The other 4 bowls have the winners of the SEC, ACC, B12, B10, P10 and 3 at large. No conference can be represented more than twice.

This is how Texas played in the Rose Bowl in 2004 when we played USC. Kansas and Oklahoma in 2007 (Kansas was at large). Illinois in the Rose last year when Ohio State was in the big game. etc, etc.

Nope not automatic. It does not automatically go to a pac 10 team thought right?

they have to be eligible, and their "home" bowl would have the option to choose them.

the Rose Bowl loves "tradition" and has proven that they are morons, so they'd pick some Pac 10 team in that scenario if possible even if there were better teams available to pick, see Illinois last year

they could have picked a one loss Kansas team over the 3 loss Illini

Right but it does not have to be a pac 10 team right?

so what im hearing here is that the pac 10 would only get their automatic bid assuming they had another team that qualified right?

yeah, the auto-bid for the conference champ would likely be taken by USC if they win out

unless Oregon State wins out too...

Each BCS conference gets one automatic bid regardless of which game they play in.
If USC and OU were to go to the Championship game, they would be the PAC10 and B12 auto bids.
The P10 and B12 do NOT automatically get a second team in if their auto goes to the Championship game.
If a second team from either conference are taken, they are in as at-large teams.

unless Oregon State wins out and is the Pac-10 champ, then they are the Pac-10 auto bid, and SUC would be the #1 or #2 auto-bid
