Anyone know if we are scripting our plays (or formations) for the first couple of series each game like we have done in years past? With the no-huddle offense, it doesn't seem as necessary since the coaches can signal in plays from the sideline based on what the defense gives us.

Regardless, we have outscored our opponents 75-3 in the first quarter this year and 133-16 in the first half. That is downright impressive.

Does anyone have any inside access to information or has anyone picked up on any post game comments that might shed some light on this?

I don't know. The FSN announcers seemed to indicate that last week.

A lot of teams script the first couple series of the game. They do things to test the coverage and run stopping. They also do it so they can get the guys into a grove if you will. That is why if a team stops the other team from the get go they usually do better than had the offense gone a scoring drive.

Mike Leach is really big on scripting. When he was at OU he made up a play sheet for the RRS and left it on a bench for the SAXET team to find. When we came out they loaded up prepared for one thing and we did something different. Pretty smart guy that Leach!

Leach left after the 99 season didn't he? We lost in 99. Can't be that smart. He is funny though.....

Yeah, but we jumped out to a big early lead on Texas that year. Then we gave it away because our guys were so out of shape they were beat down by the end of the game. So the story is not inconsistent with how that game turned out.

Also: I believe it still holds the record as OU's longest non-overtime game ever. And it was HOT.

Most coaches script the first series or so. But with the no huddle, it's waaaay easier to change if something doesn't go right. But usually it does for us. Knock on wood.

script it but if the defense lines up too early and shows what they are doing, Sam knows enough to audible out if there is a better play
