View Full Version : Okay conservatives... Do you REALLY think Palin is capable?

I cannot STAND Obama and I was going to vote for a Republican President for the first time since I've been of legal age to vote (I've voted Libertarian every time and R on all the house/senate seats). Now, I honestly think I'm going to "throw away my vote" to Bob Barr (pending the remaining debates). I agree with him on the issues and I just feel that McCain has really screwed up by picking Palin. I liked her at first and thought she did an excellent job during the convention. Now I'm watching her do interviews and it's painful...

My wife is pretty frustrated with me over this as her contempt for Obama is probably more than for a terrorist. However I always vote how I want to vote and while McCain had me early on (again mostly due to my dislike for Obama), I now feel that his choice for VP was shortsighted and I absolutely oppose this bailout program that he is supporting (at least he was the last time I checked).

Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe she'll do well in the debate. I seriously doubt it, but I hope she does. At any rate, I'm back on the fence (between L and R; D is not an option though most of you would say voting L is essentially voting D) and it's mostly due to her.

It doesn't matter how Palin does in the debate, it'll be the liberal media's fault. Not her own.

The Republican party has its deflector shields on high for this election.

And if McCain gets elected, they have a built in body double for her in the event of a public appearance during high threat alert times.

They can use Tina Fey like the queen did in the Star Wars Phantom Menace.

seriously, I have serious doubts she can run country but stranger things have happened and you never know what you are capable of when you are put in that position. I don't think she is a good choice at all, but that doesn't mean down the road she won't do something great for the country.

I'm a McCain supporter and still plan on voting for him, but I think the way they've handled her since she started doing interviews is not good. Let her be HER instead of trying to keep your spin spinning, i.e. Alaska-Russia foreign relations.

Bottom line, I think she'll do ok, at least as good as Obama or Biden, but I just dont like the situation they've thrust her into.

Man, get a life, it was a joke! Veep is a stupid position and if by chance they ever did get to the Presidency, the old handlers would make sure the policy of the old would stay in place...If she or Biden are that bad, then they will be hounded out of office like Agnew.

All my original post considered, I would still believe her more capable than Obama... I just think she's making some serious slip ups and needs to hit the reset button before its too late. We're getting down to crunch time and she's punching holes in the ships hull.

As of yet, I'm still leaning toward Barr...

She, and most people for that matter, should heed the words of Calvin Coolidge....no man (or woman) ever listened themselves out of a job. I, too, have been surprised she has looked ill-prepared at certain interviews.

In all honesty, she is green and may not be ready for prime time. I for one did consider Barr for my vote until just recently, I am not going to give Oblahma a pass with my vote. However, Palin, OTOH, is a person like me. She went to college, did stuff I did and now has a family and a husband, and goes out and shoots guns, hunts and fishes. She ran the family around and got involved in school and parental aspects. I would rather have her in the VP office with her greenness than O'Biden who lies, cheats and strong arms lobbyists for jobs for his sons...

My wife is pretty frustrated with me over this as her contempt for Obama is probably more than for a terrorist.Disagree with Obama on the issues all you'd like. Vote for Bob Barr or McCain or the Easter Bunny. But THIS statement is offensive as all Hell. Terrorists aren't American. They don't love this country or have loyalty to this nation. They hate all of us and want to kill all of us. To even make that equation is so completely offensive that it makes me want to spit.

As for your question, I can't stand the idiot yainch. She's a freakin' trainwreck. She's a publicity stunt. She's uninformed, unintelligent, and her looks (which are not a qualification for any type of public office) are overrated.

I'll probably still vote for McCain at this point, but I'll do it holding my nose and I might even cross her name off my ballot.

McCain > Obama <= Palin

LosAngelesSooner

If McCain wasn't as old as he is and didn't have as many medical problems as he's had her legitimacy wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue and her qualifications (or complete and utter lack thereof) wouldn't be getting called to the floor.

And, again, anyone trying to equate Obama's qualilfications or experience to hers is a blind partisan hack. McCain is way more qualified than Obama. Yes. Palin? Couldn't hold Obama's dirty laundry.

I'm at least a fiscal conservative, so I'll opine.

Nope, no way, no how.
She's at least as big a disaster as a running mate choice as Biden.
Both are prone to shooting from the hip and failing.
Biden by his sheer preference to lie when the truth would work better.
Palin by her sheer lack of knowledge. I don't think she's dumb. I just think she's poorly informed. And it's not the fault of her handlers. She could pick up a paper or something.

I'm in a bit of a quandary. I prefer Obama's policies to McCain's on the whole.

Actually, the $1200 he's talking about was in addition to the Permanent Fund Dividend this year. It was proposed by Governor Palin and pushed by her legislative staff.

The PFD was $2069. We got a check for $3269.

Not "a lot," but I'm man enough to admit when I AM wrong. I don't sit around trying to spin spin spin things to make myself right or deny deny deny and then launch into personal attacks.

siguiente!

Dear Lord this thread is full of dumb.

Just read the first post and have voted Repub in every election for Prez.

Palin is a rotten choice in my opinion. Governor of Alaska = mayor of sizeable U.S. city. Totally inexperienced. I honestly feel like she was picked because she was a woman with some style points. Shock factor. If he wanted to choose a woman, why not Condy "frisbee golf" Rice or KBH from Texas who have serious experience? My $.02. But, as I am sure some have said, no worse than Biden. Dude is a moron. "BE A PATRIOT AND PAY MORE TAXES!!!" Blow me, Joe.

A Nick Cage movie would have to have lots of boobs to make it worth watching.

Less'n it was "Raising Arizona". He peaked there.

"ALL RIGHT, FREEZE! EVERYONE ON THE FLOOR!"

"Do these balloons blow up into funny shapes?

No...unless round is funny."

Wow. I just read this entire thread. Not sure why.

Someone can say they like McCain but are unsure of Palin and sound reasonable in how they say it.

Another option is to do it LAS's way.

Not a good way to try and make people believe you really support McCain. I mean, if you think he made such a horrible decision in his first big decision, is he really the candidate for you? Just askin'.

And I'll admit...it shook me. Hard. But I've been a McCain loyalist since 1999 and I don't waver very easily no matter how much something may have let me down at times (hence I'm still a registered Republican and still a Roman Catholic). I believe that true change and reform comes from within. I also believe in John McCain's character and honor. That is what earned my loyalty and what is keeping it.

However Palin scares the Bejeezus out of me. She's a nutter. An Assembly of God nutcase. A zealot. And the thought of her being THAT CLOSE to the Presidency scares me A LOT.

I know I am not the authority, but I appreciate your answer. Fair enough.

McCain and Palin are not really much alike. And just so you know, I have said and still believe she was not even close to the best choice. Hell, before she was picked it isn't like anyone even thought of her.

Thanks for the explanation...for me, at least. But, for reference, go and watch Andy Rooney's season opening piece last night about VP's. I agree with him...most are hardly even known and rarely come into play for big decisions and policy issues.
