I have seen the last kick return by some no name, barely D1 player go for 70 plus yards if I'm Bob Stoops.

This special teams play could be our Achilles heal!

No, but consistant bad kick offs can lose a game.

I can not rememer a worse punter/place-kicker bombo than we have right now. Surely there is someone else.

Dear Bob,

Take over special teams.

I just don't understand how such athletic and dominate players can tackle pretty well all the time except for on special teams.

Another great punt  and even worse coverage. Luckily we got the int on the next play.

It's not like he's a good DE coach or anything.

Not his fault that Box missed a tackle about 5 yards into the run back; we have guys in position, but the tackling needs to get better; after that one runback, it did

It's not like he's a good DE coach or anything.Meh, DE is mainly an instinctive position. Moreso than any other position on the field. He is without question and by all measure a terrible Special Teams coach.

But Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Washington and now TCU or every team we've played has had some good kick returns. Off the top of my head 7 for more than 40 yards. It's a bad scheme and a bad kicker (can't hit the endzone). Trust me, this will be a problem against a good team. Field position is a huge part of the game.

Field position has absolutely NOTHING to do with football.

Field position has absolutely NOTHING to do with football.

I believe in equality. What makes the 50 yard line better than the 30? What makes our team's 25 any different from your team's 25?

David Earl
9/27/2008, 09:56 PM
That's it right there!

Besides, if our special teams let the other team score, our offense gets RIGHT BACK ON THE FIELD!!! That, my friends, wears opposing defenses out!

heh, I know it seems a simple point to have to explain but, well, you know. ;)

I'm not watching another game until somebody gets fired.

Until then, I'm going to spend every Saturday crocheting a turtleneck sweater.

And I don't know how to crochet. And I have no idea what a turtleneck is.

Don't get me wrong. I don't necessarily mean he should no longer work at OU, just maybe he shouldn't be in charge of special teams.

I was thinkin... maybe we shouldn't score so much to have to kickoff. hmm?

Well, Bob won't fire Wilson, but Bob wouldn't fire Chuck Long either. Perhaps you guys just need to pool your money, find a coaching opening far, far away and bribe the school off to hire Wilson if you really want him gone.

I still believe and I'm not at all alone that Chuck long lost the National Championship game against LSU with his play calling/clock management/misuse of KJ in the final drive. But I'm not bitter at all.:D

Kejuan Jones may never live that down... he lives close by in Jenks, perhaps we should ask him (NO WE SHALL NOT).

Woulda coulda shoulda. Have to move on.

I think we're going to improve a lot over the course of this season. I mean, punting improved within a few special teams plays of the bad early kicks.

i don't hate on Chuck Long like some people but the the playcalling in the Sugar Bowl....I'm IN on that.

to his credit, that delay screen to Kejuan is wide open but JW overthrows him. but really, exhale, wtf.

edit: i was sitting in that endzone. and the whole game, the whole ****ing game....my Dad is yelling "Chuck, run the ball out of the gawddamn ****ing I."

the whole game. he was right, my dad.

i have no specific problem with Chris Wilson, i will say he got a lot of criticism here in Boulder as Barnett's DL coach. but, CU fans hate everything.

I'd like to know why our kicker uses a 3-step technique on kickoffs as opposed to a longer run-up like pretty much every other kicker in D1 football. It's like he's kicking a long field goal. Any kickers out there that can explain this?

Penguin
9/27/2008, 11:07 PM
Well, I once kicked a beer can at least 40 yards.

Yes, I prefer a long run-up.

We're trying to kick the ball higher since we apparently can't kick it deep, and usually when kickers try to get under the ball more to get it higher this is what they do. The high short kick was all the rage in high school football for a while. I think it largely sucks.

Yeah, I know. It's pretty common knowledge that calling three pass plays inside the red zone when KJ was gashing their D, who was gassed and on their heals, was just effin stupid.
