View Full Version : Can someone explain this "I hope the media hates us" mentality?

If you will remember, in 2000, we were ESPN's darling that year starting after the texass game and we all know how that season ended. And, yes, we were still the darling in 2001 and 2002 and we lost a grand total of 4 games. In 2003, the media really started hating us, especially after we backed into the national championship game.

We haven't been darlings ever since. In that span we've lost 4 games one year and lost 3 games twice.

So, I say, "Huh?" It sure looks like OU does better when the media loves us. Playing with a chip on our shoulder doesn't seem to be translating into anymore national championships.

By saying, "Good. I hope the media hates us!" it looks like we are conceding 2-4 losses every year.

Now, before a 20 year old Mensa member, who thinks he's smarter than the rest of us combined, comes along and tries to repeat his favorite professor's super-dee-duper logic, let me say this. Of course, there's no logic behind this. This is all superstition. But, at least come up with a superstitious belief that makes a little sense!

Media hates us: 2-4 losses.

Media loves us: National champeenship

I'm not sure I'd say the media loved us in 2000. They did favor FSU to win and made a big deal about how our presence in the title game due to what they called a "weak big 12 conference" at the time cheated Miami out of the title game. They didn't respect our undefeated season until after we finished it.

As for me, I'd much rather have their respect once it's all said and done.
