I cannot for the life of me believe that not one democrat, not one republican,
not one media outlet has talked about congress meeting the American
people halfway on this issue by agreeing to take a CUT IN CONGRESSIONAL
PAY!
OH NO....ANYTHING BUT THAT!
But they sure can get together long enough to vote themselves a PAY RAISE!
It's PATRIOTIC TO PAY TAXES????
READ YOUR HISTORY BOOKS AND REFLECT ON THE BOSTON TEA PARTY!
And to top it all off,my senator's local phone only connnects you
to a fax line and his Washington D.C. office simply says this number
is no longer in service!
I think it's high time said senator joins his phone #.

i wouldnt be opposed to a congressional paycut, but even with each member of congress taking a $25,000 paycut, it amounts to $13,375,000. what'll that do? probably the same thing shooting a speeding train with a bb gun would do.

If nothing else, that's the VERY LEAST they should do.
This don't do as I do,do as I say do business-as-usual mentality needs
to be stopped.
Make it a TEAM EFFORT and meet the American people halfway as a sign
of good faith.
Don't ask someone to do something you aren't willing to do yourself.
I fear that practice has long since gone out the window just like
everything else we've allowed to be outsourced.
The way things are now, they ought to free Richard Scrushy and
apologize for being so two-faced.

Are they asking us to cut our paychecks in half?

Assuming that you mean that the weakened dollar or increased tax burden we'll eventually have to face to pay for this plan, wouldn't that mean that they're facing the same pay cut?

We all will have to pay off that giant national debt sometime. My only problem with this is that politicians are so corrupt these days that I'm not sure they would just pocket the money.

Unless, of course, it's a very well placed bb to the head of the engineers.

Senators and representatives only make $169,300 per year from the government. Most of them make a crapload MORE from other enterprises.

If they REALLY want to make a difference they should pass a bill like Barack Obama's proposed tax revisions, and hike the tax rates on the top 5% of incomes in the country.

Let Bill Gates pay for the bailout, in other words.
