FSU or Miami went wire to wire a few years ago.

OU was preseason number one, fell to number three before we ever played a game but ended the season number one after beating Penn State. I have looked and looked but can not find another instance where a team was preseason number one, never played a game ranked number one but ended up number one.

Here's a nice page that shows wire-to-wires.

Yea, I remember that but the pollsters stupidity wasn't our problem.

I'll be pissed if the sec homers jump us.

That doesn't necessarily show wire-to-wires. That just shows where the Preseason #1s ended up (case in point, '85 Oklahoma). Only FSU in 1999 and SUC in 2004 have gone wire-to-wire, through every poll, as #1 and won the MNC.

I am pretty sure OU was ranked 4th the morning of January 1st, 1986.

#2 or 3 Miami was rolled by Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl

#2 or 3 Iowa lost the Rose Bowl

#1 Penn State lost to us.

It's also pretty crazy that we didn't do it in the mid 50's or 74-75.

Sorry if this is a little late, but just to confirm...

Of those that were preseason #1 and finished #1, the fewest regular season weeks at #1:

1985 OU - 1
1978 Alabama - 2
1975 OU - 4
1974 OU - 5
1951 Tennessee - 5
