Do we get jumped? Be a neutral fan of all teams. I don't think we get jumped. The only team I could see jumping us would be LSU. Nobody else beat a ranked team, that matters.

I wouldn't be shocked if Georgia or LSU jumped us just because we're idle this week. We'll set it back to normal next week.

it doesn't matter. it's too early to care, not to mention the fact that if an SEC team goes undefeated they should get a crack at USC (or whoever in the title game).

Guys,

this constant dissing of the SEC is getting a little old. Win a BCS game for a change and THEN we'll talk about how badly the SEC is overrated, ok? I think you guys deserve your ranking but, The fact is, you guys haven't played anybody yet this year. Graciously accept that respect and quit being so damn cocky...

I gotta think that ASU win loses some of its luster after they lost to UNLV. On a related note the Pac-10 is really pathetic this year. Oregon got exposed last week and finally lost this week and I don't know how UCLA beat Tenn. Teams 2-10 are an embarrassment. I have to agree with the pundits that no one can beat USC but USC, in the conference anyway. There are about 5 teams that could beat them in a bowl game IMO.

BoulderSooner79
9/20/2008, 11:09 PM
No jumpin' this week. ASU was unranked, Tennessee is a disorganized mess. LSU is too far back and struggled against a team that has no offense and should not have been ranked that high. And *OU* has become media darlings second only to Pete's bunch.

Sabanball needs to realize that every year the assumption that the SEC is just dominant is silly. It's like Vandy, Arkansas, Ole Miss, MSU and South Carolina aren't even in the conference. They're top-heavy like every other conference but the media treats all teams as "the SEC". Yet another reason why there shouldn't be any polls until mid October.

Although I'm glad Bama is looking good again.

AP Top 25

1. USC (61) 2-0 1,596
2. Oklahoma 3-0 1,485
3. Georgia (2) 3-0 1,437
4. Florida (1) 2-0 1,414
5. Missouri 3-0 1,389
6. LSU 2-0 1,274

29 voters have us ahead of Georgia by 2 spots or less. 38 voters have Florida ranked 2 spots below. 14 pollsters have LSU ranked 2 spots below us.

All 3 of those teams put up impressive performance and combined with our bye week, they stand to gain some ground. USC is almost a runaway at #1 and they didn't play so they probably don't lose any ground so we can soften the impending blow.

LSU is too far away to jump us and Missouri wasn't that impressive - only 5 voters have Mizzou ahead of us so that doesn't help either. UGA only needs to make up 48 points and Florida needs 71. I'm not sure what the average deviation is for a bye week and I'm not considering pollsters who have those teams ranked 3 spots or more leapfrogging us. I actually know nothing, just compiled some stats. I don't know if half those voters or 1/10th of those voters will switch.

But I'm going to go ahead and guess UGA jumps us and Florida makes it close.

What do you mean? I realize we're not THE best league top to bottom every year without exception. But...most of the time we are. I think even recent history bears that out.

I actually agree with you about the polls--I feel like the preseason polls and polls from sept are really nothing but 'beauty contests'. Once Oct is here we're all into the meat of our conference schedules, I think only then we get an accurate picture of how good many of us are.

9/20/2008, 11:31 PM
To be fair, we jumped UGA for relatively no reason. We played a team considered by most that is worse than ASU. UGA won at USC. We jumped them because we looked more impressive. But you can't look more impressive when you don't play.. so I wouldn't be surprised if UGA jumps us.

No matter what time of year it is, that is what the polls are about. Its my main beef with the 'system' we use. No one should speculate on which team is better until they meet on the field and prove it.

I disagree, I don't think bowl games are all that meaningful. I would rather win the Big 12 because to do so would mean we have beaten our regional rivals who we recruit against and have to put up with 365 days of the year.

Don't misinterpret what I'm saying and think I don't want to win a bowl game - I do. But being the butt of BCS jokes while we continue to run through the Big 12 and beat all of our rivals is a consolation prize that any other team should dream for.

Octavian
9/21/2008, 12:08 AM
aside from the self congratulatory "We're OU" stuff, though...every potential "jumper" immediately below us has some hole, whereas --up to this point-- OU and SC haven't shown one.

Tennessee lost to UCLA...before the Bruins lost 59-0 and then to Arizona...so that win isn't jaw dropping for Florida. And Tebow is great. No doubt. But he only threw for 120 yards or so and their running game still looks suspect, at best.

Georgia is, at least to me, not nearly as good as what their fans want them to be. Stafford is...pretty good. Not great. Just good. Their OL is serviceable and their D is certainly above average. The SEC will be a difficult gauntlet for them to navigate. Florida looked better than them.

LSU had the best win of the day. Les and the Tigers won at Auburn with two mediocre quarterbacks directing their offense. That's impressive, but it's also the reason they shouldn't jump OU and claim the #2 spot.

However, perception might be more important this year than in most. OU needs to bring its A game every week because there will be voters looking to for a justification to drop us.

Sabanball

oh yes. I killed 2 pizza's today. The girl is gone for the weekend, friends are out partying and I turn 21 on Tuesday. I said screw it, I'm pulling an entire day, 15 hours of college football. Got drunk twice today, that is when you truly know is a good day. just saying. If anybody else did something better than that, let me know.

You couldn't stay drunk the whole day? Why did you sober up and start over? :D

The only way I get drunk twice in one day is when I take a nap in between the morning drinking and the evening drinking! :P

Do we get jumped? Be a neutral fan of all teams. I don't think we get jumped. The only team I could see jumping us would be LSU. Nobody else beat a ranked team, that matters.

Not to be snide, but at this early stage of the season, who cares?

SC has a firm lock on the BCS championship game unless they shoot themselves in the foot.

I haven't seen a SEC team that can go undefeated through their schedule.

The Sooners just need to keep taking care of business each week and they will be fine.
