theres a couple of tards on another board actually comparing fsu's tradition to Oklahoma's.

what have they done outside the 90's??

i said they have tradition in the 90's and thats it. We all know OU goes back to the 50's, 70's, mid-late 80's and obviously 2000's. then I get the "well lets go back to yale, princeton and the likes, cause they have to be mentioned too"

to which i replied where are they now? thats why those schools are not mentioned, because Oklahoma was there then, and they're here now. they arent. And neither is fsu.

are there any points i might have missed?

How about we've won more games (779), then their school has played (684).

To be fair they were good in the '80's too.

However only one team has 7 NCs-OU

Only one team has 144 All-Americans- OU

Only one team has 4 Heisman winners-OU

Only one team has 5 Outland winners-OU

Only one team has 428 first team All-conference players-OU

Only one team has the longest winning streak(47 games) in D-1 history-OU

Only one team has scored the most points in NCAA D-1 history-OU(currentlly 29,736)

Only one team has scored 50+ points 130 times- OU

Only one team has won 779 games in their history-OU

Only one school has FOUR 100 win coaches- OU

Only one team has 40 conference titles -OU

Only one team has won 24 bowl games-OU

FSU is a nice program BUT there is only ONE OKLAHOMA

These comparisons are FSU- OU as there are some teams who have duplicted or passed certain comparison points, just not FSU.I could think of more reasons OU football surpasses FSU but I'm busy watching football.

A comparison between Florida State and Minnesota would be more apt. :)

I think that well circulated over head shot of the well endowed OU fans probably gives you an edge of these to.

I threw the cfbdatawarehouse at'em before I even argued. They used the number of NFL prospects as a tool. I asked if that is the goal of college football, to put more players in the pros? I said I believe the goal is winning. And Oklahoma has done a HELL of alot more than the semenholes.

Wasnt FSU a womens school until the '50s?

OK2LA

From what I understand - it was referred to as Florida State College for Wimmens up until 1947 when the Florida Legislature renamed it Florida State University Semenholes.

Who knew?

Ok, what kind of idiot would even waste their time making this kind of comparison. Do FSU fans even know football existed before the 80s?

OU has one of the best programs of ALL TIME, FSU can claim a decade and a half. There IS no comparison.

Umm...no...it seems that most fans of the Florida schools outside the Gators didn't realize the game existed at the college before they had any signifance...just like most USC fans in the post Robinson (the first time) to pre-Carroll era.

Good points but the Gat'rs didn't really exist until Spurrier started getting traction there. I think it was in the 1995 MNC game that Nebraska dismantled them by basically running the ball down their throats.

The Gators were at least the "state" team for a long time and had varying periods of significance, not OU or Bama level but some throughout the years. The fact that FSU came to the party much later and Miami on the brink of dropping football in the 70's really hurt the college football landscape in the state until the 80's.

Who knew?If FSU wants to use that we have only played fotball since 1947 as excuse it won't wash.We are THE WINNINGEST team in d-1 football since WWII 538-163-13 76.3 %(both wins and %),and all OUr NCs have been from 1950 on('50,'55,'56,'74,'75,'85,'00).Add to that we are 4-1 all time vs. FSU and 4-0 vs. THE LEGENDARY Coach Bobby Bowden.

Florida State is having a rough time now. Remember how it was in the 90s and you'll understand.

If Bob Stoops stays as long as their Bob(by) did in the program, I hope we treat him better as a fanbase than some of them seem to... of course, I hope our program continues to win as long as Bobby did too :D
