..because my wife and I went down there for the 2002 Big XII Championship game and watched OU beat the snot out of Colorado at Reliant stadium. We were broke as **** and put everything on credit. It was Nate Hyble and Q Griffin's last game. Anyway, we ate breakfast that morning at some nice resteraunt with a nice view to the gulf. I'm sure it's gone, now.

I haven't been there, my sister and nephew are coming down here after OU-Texas weekend and we were going to go to Galveston and Moody Gardens, we are going to Corpus now. My wife has been down there quite a few times for conferences. It is just amazing how it wipes the landscape, I remember pics of place that I had been in Pensacola that were wiped away in a hurricane, it is always hard. I know many on a Texas motorcycle board who grew up in the Houston area and it has hit them real hard. Hopefully the area can rebuild itself to some extent.

I read where that one house still standing was rebuilt in 2006 to withstand a mega hurricane.

There are definitely ways to build to make home much more resistant to storms like hurricanes or tornadoes, most people don't want to spend their money that way though. You can't get them from the housing commodity companies (the mega home builders) and they would rather have granite countertops and faux crap than invest in structure.
