My Cousin works for KHOU in Houston....
He sent me an Email about the after effects of IKE.
Here's a bit of what he sent...
Fema deploying PODS as they call them of water ice, mre's, But everything is slow to get there, Fuel is a real problem, Gas lines and groceries(if the stores that are open have any left) Have lines 50 deep inside, and close to a mile long for gas. Utility crews from around the country arriving to repair things for the next several months.
We lost the entire Island of the Bolivar Peninsula , just east of the Houston Ship Channel across from Galveston, 100's of homes, and when I say lost, the homes, debris, everything are pretty gone, 2 fire stations and police stations and restaurants, Nothing left, just a little strip of beach where the road is, We may never see or find those folks that stayed thru the storm, and there were many.
The public doesn't know yet, we have a vague idea, But information is fragmented at best, and that's what we do.
We have over 5 million in the metroplex, And it effects everyone here in some form.
Very strange driving in to work at 2:30am and not seeing any lights on, there’s a few, In a city as big as H-Town.
Downtown and the med ctr seem to be the only significant locations with power, but that’s a good thing.
We’ve had a 1.5 million watt Stewart and Stevenson generator blowtorch spewing fire and smoke since we lost power,
That thing roars like a jet engine, you can hear it in your car with the radio on and windows up a block away.
I’m sure the neighbors that live nearby want to pull the plug on it.
President Bush and his bunch have just arrived to look things over,
So I gotta go.
Prayers for the people who are lost and those who are in need.
