yeah, Bowie "gave" them the song since he was a fan of Mott (Ian Hunter)...and the Hoop had put out a couple records that no one was buying.

Mick Ralphs of Bad Company was in Mott the Hoople as well.

A Hoople is one who was chastized in the HBO series "Deadwood". Bumbling idiots referred to as "Hoopleheads" by Al Swearingen.
