View Full Version : Why TCU scares me

...and should scare you, too.

I looked and looked for a current depth chart, but couldn't find one on their website. If one of you more computer-literate peoples can find one, I'd be much obliged.

That being said, I'll use Phil Steele's pre-season depth chart and it's rather impressive.

#1, it's coached by Gary Patterson. That dude's been on fire since he's been there. They have a better record over the last three years than we do (they're 30-8, we're 30-10). I know the competition's different, but they're still a good team.

#2, 15 returning starters, including 19 juniors or seniors. That means this isn't a young team. That's 19 people who either helped beat us or can remember beating us.

#3, Their defense has been very good this year. This will be a very good test for our offense. I know Coach Stoops raved about Cincinnati's defense, but this is every bit as good as they were, and possibly better.

Thoughts?

Gary Patterson is exactly 100 spots lower than Mike Stoops on the Coaches Hot Seat (http://www.coacheshotseat.com/CoachesHotSeatRanking.htm) list... at No. 108. His compensation is in line with the Texas schools around him at $1,300,000, even though he's in a lesser conference simply known as MWC... of course, he's in his ninth year, has a 65-25 overall record, so not too shabby.

Eh. Should be a good test. But they struggled with Stanford at home.

I see it like Cincy. Close early. Blow 'em out in the 2nd half.

We're playing in Norman. So yeah, we're gonna win. And before you say "well, they beat us in Norman last time", our team is dramatically superior in 2008 than it was in 2005 (except maybe kicking) regardless of how much better/worse TCU is than in 2005.

Thats exactly right.

It annoys me cause people keep saying the beat is at home. Yea they did, but this team is far superior than the team they beat.

I think we handle them nicely.

Why yes, the beat IS at home! So is the wave ;)

(sorry, that phrase just sounded kewl and profound - "The beat is at home.")

Horned frogs never really scared me until i was holding one as a kid and it actually did shoot blood out of its eyes. That ain't natural. Things shouldn't bleed unless their injured . . .

Ok, our Espen "friend" Pat Forde has his verdict on TCU up (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&page=dash0803&sportCat=ncf)... as well as Okie State:

Oklahoma State (28). Wins so far: Washington State, Houston, Missouri State. Sagarin strength of schedule rating: 139th. Mauling the Cougars in the opener looked good at first -- until we saw how horrific Wazzu is.

I bet they lose to Troy this weekend.

Even a verdict of a "big hug" (wtf, Forde...) wouldn't be able to prevent defense that :D

With big ol' bye bye on the schej this week, I have several hours of community service... but hopefully, they'll televise this travesty in the making so we can all giggle at it like last year :D

Not that it has a bearing on the upcoming game, but it was interesting to see the series record...TCU is 4-1 in Norman since the series started in '44, and they have a 2 game winning streak on Owen Field.

Plus the stinging home loss is recent enough to provide a very nice payback scenario.

55-13. TCU should be the one's scared. End of discussion.

I think their winning at Norman in 2005 is not wholly significant considering that these are two different teams.

Having said that, there are juniors and senior players on TCU who have beaten a highly ranked OU team at home. It does give them some level of confidence knowing they've done something like this before.

Couple that with the other facts, and...well...they just scare me.

TCU's QB last time we played them was like 21 and 1 as a starter and was very good. Our team pretty much was the avg team and we should have still beaten them - with 2 over throws and turn overs cost us.

This is a 49-17 Victory for the Sooners

I have never seen the Sooners lose in person. Last time I missed a game I was TCU! I will be damned if miss this game. We are gonna win and win big!

This is a revenge game where we will throttle them. The only reason we lost to them two years ago was because we're rotating QB's.

Trust me, this isn't the same OU team!!! I know TCU has done good things, but they will walk away with 50 on them. I know they will score some points, but they won't even get close to winning. Just my .02 cents.

Plus, how would we make it to the Orange Bowl if we lost to them? ;)
