Man, watching Roy get burned on a deep ball...again...tonight...made me a little sad.

The guy was a college freak. A great few first years. But now he has linebacker speed and he is trying to play safety. It ain't happening when a rookie like Jackson blows by him...AND then proceeds to drop the ball before crossing the goal line!

The average lifespan of an NFL player is 4 years. Roy is just about done. And that is just sad to me. Greatest OU defensive player I ever witnessed...since Leroy Selmon was when I was about three, four and five.

Class act, nonetheless...and has taken his new role in stride. Just sad to see someone so great unable to keep up anymore.

Oh, well...he still has caused more touchdowns in OU-Texas history than the other RW.

Injured but I don't know what it was.

Ego or dignity. MRI hasn't determined which yet.

It was an obvious running situation...so Roy was in...and they threw a bomb right by him. But the cocky SOB rookie DeShawn Jackson dropped the ball in celebration before crossing the goal line and they gave it to Philly at the 1 since they blew the whistle. NFL refs and whistles...STOP!!!

Not big enough. OLB's in a 3-4 are basically defensive ends. Just the type of DE's that can run like hell.

fractured = broken.

One of the biggest misconceptions in medicine. I think it stems from the fact that sometimes you can have a 'hairline fracture' which is not clinically the same as breaking the bone in two. We just don't call it a 'hairline break'. But they're both a fracture. Just like when the bone breaks through the skin all nasty, we call it a 'compound fracture'.

That said, I've also heard nothing about him being out the rest of the year.

I think Roy would benefit from a trade at this point. That scheme just doesn't play to his strengths, exposes his weaknesses, and otherwise the Cowboys are rolling. I don't think they're going to tear down and rebuild their team around him the way they did a few years ago.

And I miss those days, too. Even miss his rookie days with the Cowboys.

To be sure, I agree with CVS that Adam "Don't call me Pacman" Jones was as much to blame for the blown coverage as Roy was.

And oh yeah, if you're not 100% sure of the call, ref, let the play continue and THEN make a ruling on the play. That way, replay can correct you if you're wrong.

Since Bob Stoops came to Norman...we have been blessed with all sorts of good fortune and witness to many great players who moved on to have Pro careers. Roy is one of the greatest to do so. Kelly Gregg is another. Others have made it and had short careers and some have comeback after injuries when others have not.

The thing is...these guys from 2000's MNC Squad were all just honored at halftime this year and deservedly so IMO.

Commanding respect for time as a Sooner is one thing, but pointing out someone is playing like dog crap when they're getting paid MILLIONS of dollars is another.

Roy was one of the greatest defenders to play at OU. In the grand scheme of things for the Cowboys, he's been pretty-darned lousy in Dallas. I know he's made a few Pro Bowls but, c'mon, if you're watching the games you know who opposing OCs are going after when the chips are down.

Well, I never said anything like that. If Roy wants to move out to Phoenix and be my golf buddy for the rest of his days that is just fine with me. Roy is a great person from what I have read and he will be very successful off the field, as he ONCE WAS on it. According to Wade Phillips in today's PC, the receiver that broke deep was not Roy's responsibility. It was PacMan Jones' responsibility. Roy had the underneath assignment, but tried to chase the play when he saw PacMan getting beat. I guess we could blame it on Bush.

I think the runors of TRRW demise are greatly exaggerated.Roy is a smart player and a hard worker.I'm betting he has a couple og Pro-Bowl years left. All safeties get beat from time to time and Roy more than most BUT he is still great as run stopper.I think hard work can turn him around and I KNOW Roy is NOT afraid of hard work. Roy is the flip side of Deon Sanders in that everyone criticized Deon's ability(and desire) to tackle while everyone critcizes Roy for lack of coverage skills.Roy has NEVER been more than average as a cover guy.He is and has always been great at the point of attack.

I wish the Cowboys would use him more at the line of scrimmage. I never once saw him blitz last night. Roy is at his best when he is attacking downhill not chasing wide outs and tight ends. It seems the last few years he hasn't been as aggressive but I did notice last night he was really trying to lay the wood on a few eagles especially the play where he broke his forearm. That is a good sign.

Btw for all you haters out there -if any safety got burned last night it was Brian Dawkins!

I think it's funny how someone is "finished, over, kaput" because they have a flaw in their game. Like a DC can't cheme and get his players in position if they aren't all perfect.

I got news for you who think Roy stinks...all NFL players have a weakness. His gets exploited some (like everyone else does), and now everyone thinks that every deep ball was his blown coverage.

He's still a darn good football player, regardless of his weakness, regardless of where he played his college ball.

NFL.com - Cowboys’ Williams fractures forearm, will miss at least four weeks (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80adaa22&template=with-video&confirm=true)

Associated Press

IRVING, Texas -- Cowboys safety Roy Williams fractured his right forearm while making a special teams tackle in Dallas' 41-37 victory over Philadelphia on Monday night. The five-time Pro Bowl selection could miss at least three games.

Williams was hurt when he and Keith Davis combined to hit Eagles return man Quintin Demps during a kickoff. The safety went to the sideline and was escorted to the locker room a few plays later.

Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten played through a separated shoulder that forced him to the locker room in the first half. But in the fourth quarter, Witten had a 32-yard catch to the Eagles 5 that set up Marion Barber's 1-yard go-ahead TD run.

"Little shoulder pops out and that's nothing," Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens said. "It just shows you how tough the guy is."

Witten, who finished with seven catches for 110 yards, will be re-evaluated Tuesday.

Backup Patrick Watkins took Williams' place in the defensive backfield and was called for a key face mask penalty on the final play of the third quarter. Two plays later, Brian Westbrook scored on a 1-yard run to put the Eagles up 37-31.

It's amazing how some people seem to think that every TD Dallas gives up is Roy's fault; i'm glad a few of you actually understand the game; do you really think that any safety in the NFL is going to cover a 4.3 WR in single coverage on a deep pass? Do you actually think that there is a safety in the league that CAN cover one one one deep? There's a reason these guys are safeties, and it's not for their coverage skills; get a clue

Not to change the subject but did anyone catch the announcer when Jenkins made a great play by knocking the ball away from the receiver that got behind him? It went something like ".....and a great play by the much ......(somewhat of a pause while said announcer swallows the word "maligned" thinking #31 is Roy Williams and realizes, or more likely elbowed by a spotter, that #31 is in fact Mike Jenkins) ....talked about Mike Jenkins." Kind of funny.

Excuse Me , But Bro you wernt this Mouthy when we Had spek . I wonder why ? If you dont care abot it one way or the Other why didnt you turn It off ?

Fella, I haven't changed a lick. I NEVER have posted with a concern about spek...EVER! I didn't turn the thing on or off cause I didn't care about it or pay any attention to it. Honestly, I didn't know you could turn it on or off. Kinda like Dungeons and Dragons...I have no idea how many sides are on the dice cause I don't play.

And if spek comes back, fire away. I just might be able to sleep at night in spite of it.

What's funny is the "intent" of this thread was to say how much I missed the way TRRW dominated a football game. He still has some game, but he is not the enforcer he used to be and I miss that. So...is that okay with all of the critics?

BigRedJed

The fact that you know Dungeons and Dragons has dice that are different than standard dice, or even that it has dice at all, is telling. Googled it, and you're right; there's all sorts of weird dice in that game apparently. I didn't even know it had dice. Not that I'm not a nerd; I'm just not that kind of nerd. But that's your second D&D reference in this thread. Methinks the lady doth protest too much.

It's just a good fact to know when teasing folks. But whatever. I'm not sure it is legally possible to like football like I do and Dungeons and Dragons, but if you think I do, cool with me.

Hey, I also know Harry Potter wears glasses...is that telling? Does that make me a closet fan?

And WTF is SPEK? This interlink thing is becoming more and more complex...

This thread seems to touch on a theme that I see around here consistently:

Can a person be a Sooner fan and still question their own in certain instances? Is this not synonymous with the duty of a good citizen - to question their government?

It seems like sometimes some folks around here are completely intolerant of an opposing/unfavorable point of view - to the point where they cannot even discuss an issue. Personally, I'd rather be open to anything and everything under the sun - I might not ultimately agree with it, but it might have broadened my perspective. I also like to be brutally honest in my assessment of my own ship - if I sugar coat things or just flat out don't acknowledge things it will only hurt me in the long run. Talking about your deficiencies is how you grow and improve.

I can't understand why people are so offended that Maestro is pointing out that Williams continues to look like he's lost a step. I'm sure Maestro still loves him, still loves the Sooners, etc... he's just making an observation.

Partly so your young fingers can operate a keyboard and disrespect a man who fought for your Mama and Daddy so they could eventually get together and give us the opportunity to neg you to O-bolivia-n. the military is not such a noble profession that anyone who served automatically deserves respect. the majority of military jobs are complete peasant's work, anyone can operate a gun. not to mention the biggest *******s i have encountered in my life are marines. most people join the military because it's an easy way to secure a good future for your family, not because they are some super patriot. you are still retarded.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Yes, a bunch of the work is grunt work (hence the term "grunts").

But they sacrifice waaaaaaay more than you will ever know. The amount of time they spend away from their families, the amount of freedoms they give up, the low wages they earn, being held accountable on a level you will never know.

At some point, you're going to start re-reading your arguments with olevet and realize two things:

1) What started out as a petty argument among two people over something completely inignificant has escalated to you disrespecting all American vets.

2) You could have (and still can) stopped this by backing off and re-directing this toward the original argument/s. I'm not saying you're wrong for arguing with him. I'm not saying he's right for what he's said about you. That's between you two.

You can disrespect olevet as a person all day...he's no better on this board than you or I. But you've decided to disrespect his service to this country. Don't be offended if nearly every grown adult on this board sees different than you.

Yeah, admittedly soldiers are paid (not much, but they are), and yes, it often is a chance for a kid who doesn't have a lot of options to better himself. But what you are missing, be they volunteers, draftees back in the day, or whatever, is that they are putting their lives on the line to protect you and your way of life. And mine. And the lives/lifestyles of everyone else. They put their lives at risk to protect others. That's why people like soldiers, firefighters, and police officers automatically deserve an additional measure of respect.

You're not going to win this one, kid. Time to pack it in. Politics, pride, immaturity or whatever else is driving this for you aside, one day you'll (hopefully) grow up, recognize when other people perform a difficult, sometimes thankless task that directly benefits you, and be grateful for it.

The Maestro

Finish med school, then volunteer for one of the armed service branches or the USPHS and get the self-respect and gratification of knowing you gave something back.

Attend the funeral of one of your Iraq/Afghanistan peers, visit a VA center, go to a VFW/DAV/American Legion meeting...find out that serving can be a job, but it is much more than that.

As a Doc, you will certainly gain some automatic respect from others. And, deep down inside, you will know you earned it. However, every single opportunity you have...from the car you drive, to the house you live in, to the entertainment you choose to enjoy...ALL OF IT, was made possible by the sacrifices of veterans like those of us on this board.

You may be getting an education but you have a great deal of learning to do.
