it started out bad and got worse and worse. i felt a little bad for her. she was completely off-pitch on the very last note of the song (after she did all that wannabe diva crap at the very end)

Ok, so Cher (or a Cher impersonator) sang at halftime of the OU-Warsh game. It was so hideous for the first few seconds that I hit "record" on my mini cam. As soon as I have a sec, I will put it on youtube. We booed her afterward. It was awfuuuul. Like Ashlee Simpson all over again, except with better on-field results.

normally i would frown on booing the anthem like a bunch of egal fans, but she was horrible, and I am so sick of idiots like her butchering the song that I am happy to hear it.

I am sooo sick of the young pretty girls that can't sing a lick! They are everywhere! And they're popular!

Go find some Taylor Swift Live (CMA's or something) on youtube and prepare to vomit!

They weren't booing, they were saying "LUUUUUUUUUUUUU" for Deluna.

Now, I have to listen to the vid with the sound turned way down so as not wake up my wife and get yelled at, but it didn`t sound so bad to me. But I read the thread first, so maybe my expectations were for something spectacularly bad, when it was only mediocre? She did over dramatize it a little, but that is just what people seem to want to do nowadays. At the singers, not the listeners.

It wasn't as bad as Homer Simpson's Askklee....but she should really never do that again IMO.

GREAT way to put it! She tried to turn our National Anthem into an R&B joint.

No thanks.

When I read the thread I was expecting much worse. The clip, which was only about half the song I heard on youtube.com was not that bad. There was no backing track and it a 20 year old American girl of what I think is Dominican heritage was singing in a sold-out 65,000 seat stadium. An overwhelming majority of Americans are more offended at the "home of the Sooners," perceived desecration heard in Norman, and prior to the last Sooner home game the OU announcer expressly referred to "the home of the brave," which I perceived as a message to the fans who amend their rendition.

Wasn't the tune to our national anthem originally a drinking song?

Meh. I had the HD on with the Bose Lifestyle 48 cranked up and trust me, it was damn near as bad as Roseanne Barr's version. She butchered the song in a great way. I booed at my TV.

Pop sensation? She's trying to pull of a Mariah or Whitney. Just sing the song without all the freakin' runs.

I watched the game with my 96 year old grand pa and had stepped out to refurbish my libation. When I came back I found him, fingers stuck in ears, looking at the floor humming to himself to drown the TV out.

It was that bad.

Some people you want to punch...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1FhndWwWt8I&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1FhndWwWt8I&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Some people look like they lost the "who has to sing it?" bet...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cCqpvWOpSe8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cCqpvWOpSe8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Some people just try too hard:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iINVptR_f4Y&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iINVptR_f4Y&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Some people just have no talent, but their heart's in the right place (start at 0:30)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bfZ_gXCHaMw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bfZ_gXCHaMw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Some moments just make you feel good about our country's future:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/q4880PJnO2E&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/q4880PJnO2E&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

They're all screw-ups, but some are more screwed up than others.

Because if you do, you bring great dishonor to China... and we replace you with a cuter girl on stage and a more talented singer backstage!

That's how long it took her to sing it.
I wish people would just sing the song.

so just a guess here, that most of you didn't like Jose Feliciano's rendition of Star Spangled Banner in 1968 (which was genius and sung from the heart)

bet you didn't like his rendition of Chico and the Man either! :pop:

We went to Experiencing Music Project or whatever it's called in Seattle last weekend. It had Jimi's Star Spangled Banner rendition and it was still awesome. Some just know how to tribute others better than the rest :D

I am no music major, nor do I sing or play an instrument so forgive the layman's terms...

I think it is different when the arrangement(?) is different, either with Jose's guitar or this great example:

QRvVzaQ6i8A

Neither of these different arrangements are disrespectful, in fact, I think they are done beautifully.

The earlier comment about trying to promote yourself as the singer is spot-on...believe me, neither Jose or Marvin needed any additional promotion.

well, with no backing music, i don't think the "arrangement" thing really holds (i'm not a musician either)

but the two above videos don't seem nearly as self-indulgent somehow. i think Marvin Gaye kinda has some license, i mean i don't get the feeling he's showing off, it's just him

of course no one should basically try playing it on the guitar again. Jimi's spoiled it for everyone.
