Is it true that the newer stadiums are "quieter" and negate home field advantage?

I think it has to do with the sheer volume of space compared to older stadiums. We were up there last summer for the F1 race at Indy, Lucas is huge compared to the Hoosier Dome, even the Colts fans in our office (they moved from our home office in Indy) commented on how large it is. Just like Texas Stadium could fit inside the new Jerryworld and with the Astrodome and Reliant sitting next to each other you can really see the difference. Then when you open the roof you give the sound the ability to escape the confines of the stadium.
