Has anyone thought about buying a few dozen praying mantises and turning them loose around the outside of the house and in the flower bed, shrubs, garden, etc?

I had this idea yesterday while driving and I'm wondering if it's worth considering.

Hell, if it weren't for the wife, i'd turn a few of the bastrds loose inside the house.

I will wait for spring!

My buddies lived in the DeBarr slums in the 70's. They had a mantis in their apartment. We called it "D-Con Jones". It had quite the appetite.

I would say that you would probably be better off with using ladybugs to hit at the bottom of the food chain and the rest could take care of itself. If you are trying to do a bit of organic gardening, constant vigilance is the key, it's much harder but you will grow better fruits and veggies.

If you're not trying to be organic, I would use a blend of CFCs and diesel.
