I don't have a strong opinion either way on the spek situation, but I do have a compromise solution: a spek thread, and a negspek thread. Pick the appropriate thread, then post a link to the post in question and say your peace. Everybody will know what everybody is saying about everybody else, so that should keep the shenanigans in check. These threads will work like the WAYLTs and get bumped off to the test forum after awhile, so no post-padding.

Right, it wouldn't disrupt the flow of the normal threads. And yes, I realize that "disrupting the flow" is an entirely relative concept around here.



Sounds like a lot of work.

It would be less effort than people are currently expending to bitch about nospek.

My idea was to pick an unused forum like say, the Sooner Spectator forum. Every user interested in spek starts a thread with their name there, and includes a link to their thread in their signature. Then, when you want to spek somebody, click their link and add a comment.

Dude, I have no idea. I also had no idea that the spek thing was going down. I'm only pointing out that there's more than one way to skin a cat, and changing to only positive reputation wouldn't have changed a thing. All I know is that people were being unbelievably ****ty to one another via spek, and apparently Phil got tired of hearing about it/dealing with it. As stated, his board.
