They're just turning it on though, not really actually doing anything with it. I don't think they do the particle collisions until October. It's basically going to be a bunch of scientists flipping an on switch, seeing it works, giving some woos and high fives, and then shutting it off and drinking some beers.

Thats about right.

its only one beam too.

Hopefully, nobody leaves a beer can in one of the magnets this time.

...reminds me of 3rd grade when studying the atom. Our teacher asks a 4th grade boy, (we were in the same room), what the smallest thing known to man was. He ponders it a while and solemnly states... a pissant. :)

Would it be like Kent smearing junk on the optics in "Real Genius"?

Yeah....and it happened once before at a different collider at CERN.

I think we still have about four years left according to the article I read. We're good until December 21, 2012. Hooray!

Apparently that day will suck, however. In a big way.

I've been trying to look on the bright side. We can save a lot of money on Christmas gifts that year.

Will it be worse then the day SPEK died? :P

Do we know for a fact that microscopic black holes were created when reputation was disabled?

Yes. Simply observe the wailing and gnashing of teeth here.

Taking away SPEK created a vacuum that certainly sucks as much as any black hole could.

I'd either bringing the irradiated rebar shooting crossbow, or the Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator.
