I cut around the polar circumference of my nectarine, gave it a twist, and one half pulled cleanly away from the pit. Now how do I remove the pit from the other half without making a mess?

The nectarine is rapidly approaching room temperature. Let's pick up the pace.

Maybe, pry it out with a knife. I really can't visualize your dilemma.

I don't believe that I have ever used a knife when eating a nectarine.

That pit freaks me out. I've tried just eating around the pit before, but one time I bit too close. As soon as my teeth touched it I got a sensation similar to aluminum foil on a filling. No more of that.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I've ever eaten a piece of fruit. ;)
