Tommy Bolt, the 1958 U.S. Open champion(which he won in a 36 hole Saturday at Southern Hills), died Saturday at age 92 in Cherokee Village, Ark.

His wife, Mary Lou, said "his liver shut down."

Bolt won 15 times on the PGA Tour, with his lone major coming at Southern Hills in 1958 when he beat Gary Player by four shots. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002.

But it was his temper that gained him the most notoriety.

Bolt was called "Terrible Tommy" and "Thunder," and he was often fined and suspended for slamming clubs and using abusive language. He set up a special fund from his earnings to pay the fines.

I like people that throw clubs! Hell I found a $160 Ping putter on the course yesterday 150 yards from the nearest green and buried in tall grass. I guess someone missed their birdie attempt and took it out on the putter.

I heard a story once from a guy who saw a dude throw his entire bag into a water hazard and storm off. He said the guy came storming back a few minutes later, waded out into the hazard, located his clubs, carried them out of the water, dug through the bag, pulled out his wallet and keys, hurled the bag BACK into the water, and stormed off again.

I would have paid money to see that. Srsly.
