...so why would anyone who cares about defeating Islamo-terror vote for the guy who publicly and vociferously opposed the surge and has built his campaign around bailing?

Though I'm still behind McCain, that one simple act proves Obama would be a better president than Dubya.

Your favorite homeboy still has a seven point lead.

You people can't be serious that you think that a surge of troops is going to have a lasting effect on peace in that region, can you? Are you so delusional or is it ego that prevents you from seeing that these people have hated one another for over a millennium but our "surge" is going to somehow end that. This is the kind of short sighted crap that helps out at election time but should be in no way confused with lasting peace.

How many times was the word "victory" overused used last night?

Lots.

Was that word ever used in Denver last week in regards to the WOT?

Obama knows he was wrong. McCain has argued they didn't have enough troops from the start. The surge worked but the war would have been easier all along had McCain been president. We would have left in 'defeat' had Obama been president.

and btw, even before Palin spoke last night, 'homeboy' didn't have a lead. They were all tied up.

I remember when the Republicans brought this up the last election. Victory is in sigh, still!

and your boy Sen. Herman Munster still got his arse whooped.

You people need to let it go. The war is reality. It's not going away, and even his Excellency the Soulful Sunshine Pumper from his pedestal atop the Barackopolis can't change that fact.

I just hope that when BHO goes down in flames in Nov.;in a year when the GOP brand is in the toilet (until last night at least), your peeps will finally realize they can't keep nominating candidates from outer space and hope to win. Go back to the Clinton model. It's a winner.

Just pointing out you said the same thing four years ago, will I be treated again in another four?

Barack very may well lose in November, but I will still be against the Iraq War on Nov. 5, and still expect an answer.

Your continuous cheerleading won't stop that.

I thought he had said that the surge worked in temporarily quelling violence in Iraq, but that we were losing ground in Afghanistan because we diverted our attention away from it prematurely???

NATO is responsible for Afghanistan. I think the major problem there is that we'd have to invade Pakistan to really clean house.

Then let's do it! That would help matters on the Iraq/Pakistan border too wouldn't it?

I didn't say anything here or anywhere else about the war four years ago. I was still in uniform and therefore apolitical.

Its not about cheerleading, its about considering all the evidence and drawing the logical conclusion. In a phrase, rational thought.

Interestingly though, Fivethirtyeight.com (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/) (really a pretty good numbers site for the election) has Obama gaining on McCain since Palins speech.

According to the numbers they look at (they tend to aggregate all of them), Palins speech seemed to energize both bases. For instance, Obama is apparently on pace to raise $10 Million just in the time frame from the end of Governor Palin's speech to the beginning of McCain's speech....From over 130,000 donors. Thats kind of astounding...I'd expect her to have that effect on McCains campaign, but to have that effect on Obamas too is certainly odd.

Sorry, the cheerleading was a blow, namely because I don't start a thread every other day extolling the values of Obama. My view as to the appropriate nature of government in relation to people is what drives my vote.

As to the Iraq War (I favor 100% our actions in Afghanistan) simply isn't a worthwhile investment of a trillion dollars, we aren't going to have a traditional "victory" because of the nature of the conflict, so I would like to hear the endgame from both sides.
