Huckabee. Hoo-boy. Is it just me or would Kevin Spacey play him in a movie?

Rogue

Huckabee tells a great story.

Getem
9/3/2008, 08:44 PM
I'm almost crying already... no, not from ridiculously overblown pansy liberal emotion... when Huckabee took that shot at Biden, I laughed so hard I almost let a tear escape. ALMOST, I said.

Big Red Ron
9/3/2008, 08:45 PM
I thought Huckabee made a pretty sincere speech. It isn't over yet but his point that all Republicans aren't born with a silver spoon in their mouths is one I can personally attest to.

I believe in less government, not more, therefore, I am a Republican. Republicans have let me down, as all institutions do from time to time but I do believe we'll pay less taxes under McCain than Obama. We should start in alphabetical order and cut every single government program by 10% and refund the money to taxpayers. Not even Republicans have the balls to do that and it's a shame.

Getem
9/3/2008, 08:52 PM

Meh, I think they're trying to win points with Levi's presence.

Finally someone with some panache, some charisma...Rudy G.

Rogue
9/3/2008, 09:09 PM
Interesting. BO is running against Bush and the GOP is spending half their campaign complaining about BO. And the other half pimping Sarah Palin. It's like McCain is an afterthought in the whole deal.

Getem
9/3/2008, 09:11 PM
I think Palin might actually be the star. McCain is there to be her mentor for 4 years and prep her to run against Hillary in 2012. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

I think McCain might promise only one term.

Think about it:
-health/age concerns people have about McCain are lessened
-people who aren't real sure about Obama's experience will be able to vote for JSM or at least not vote for BHO so as to 'let Obama get more experience'
-gives Palin time to get rolling, then run on her own in 2012.

Heh. Which is actually why I don't see any point to the conventions at all. They were useful a hundred years ago when the convention was actually when the party decided who to nominate. When your candidates are locked in months before the conventions, why do you need them? I mean, other than as a platform to get your candidates a ton of free media coverage to sway the easily-influenced voters?

I do believe that the Dems are in a pickle with her. You bash her, and you're a sexist. If she bashes you and you bash back, you're a sexist bully.

Alas, but the dems had a chance to nominate a woman if they so wanted.

Thus the beauty of this choice. :)

Look at it this way, though. Had the Democrats nominated Hillary, the Republicans would have had my vote right then. And I don't think I'm the only person to think that way.

Not because she's a woman. Because I don't think she can be trusted.

Agreed.

I think really anymore it's sort of a kickoff to the real meat of the election. Perhaps a rallying point for each party. But I really don't think there's a whole lot of undecideds watching conventions much. They're too busy making meth and/or watching Big Brother Eleventy Billion.

I don't care enough. I'm sure there were yawners at the DNC as well. I saw that sign last night and chuckled. I'm pretty sure that I saw a "hockey mom's for Palin" sign the night before. I'd buy in if it was 2000 -- in fact, I did buy in in 2000. I think our country would be in much better shape now if McCain had won that time around, even compared to Al Gore.

But again, he's playing the game now. Winning the primaries and possibly the election isn't exactly what I'd call incentive to stop.

I certainly didn't see his campaign's "straight talk" in Palin's speech.

not only that, this is the last rodeo for McCain...a career pol getting this close is (to paraphrase H.S. Thompson's book on the '72 Campaign) "like a bull moose in heat". he'll do anything to win.

I certainly didn't see his campaign's "straight talk" in Palin's speech.

me neither, for all the sideswipe at Obama for being all smoke and mirrors and the Pub talk about "specifics"....the RNC was pretty empty of issues and more about "personality" or the hot word they are using: "narrative".

A majority, if not all, of the 'handmade' signs allowed into the convention hall are made by a group of student volunteers. It's something that happens at conventions. The networks usually do a story on it, but I didn't see anything this time around.
