gonna take a nice hot bubble bath, crack open a bottle of wine, light some candles and get ready to watch the Palin speech.

srsly, I know people are sick of politics, but IMHO, this campaign will falter or triumph right before your eyes tonight when she addresses the nation. It will be won or lost tonight. If that's not enough drama to suck you in, then I don't know what could.

i don't think it stands or falls tonight....but that's what we'll be told to believe.

and it may work. her speech will have been perfectly crafted to say "the right thing" (just like all the other ones)...and will be hailed as a great success by many and Brit Hume.

watch. it's gonna be such a home run speech.

it's of course ironic that *all last week* speeches were merely empty, stylized words worthy of ridicule in "game-thread" like commentary...but *this week* the whole election is at stake so enormous is the weight hanging on these speeches. the entire political destiny of the nation resting on 30 minutes of prepared delivery...at this Great Fulcrum in American History....where we either choose the path of hitherto unimagined freedoms and the Maverick (sic) or that of socialist tyranny and Nationally Mandated Wimpdom.

i'm not buying it. what could possibly happen that this speech isn't hailed as "proof of McCain's great mettle and judgment" by the right....and "more of the same" by the left?

don't believe the hype.

I'll probably watch the rest of the RNC as much as I watched the DNC.

the speech itself, like Obama's last week, is merely a vehicle for the frame it's being delivered in...which has already been prepared.

the right/left try and set it up as a disappointment or doesn't live up to expectations and sell the overestimation of the "bounce" it won't produce while the other side hails it as a American bold vision, the "true" candidate of change...the home run ball.

eh...I'll wait for the cliff notes version. Then I'll watch every liberal media outlet describe the speech in exactly the same words, regardless of the station, followed by listening to fox news and conservative radio hosts use a common set of different words to describe it.

IMHO, the way people are going to vote was decided months ago. The only difference that can or will be made (maybe) is how many of them will show up to do so.

I think she has the potential to energize a lot of folks who were going to sit this one out. That's not spin, that's an honest assessment of the situation. That will either happen tonight, or it won't. heck, even Pat Buchanan is fired up about what she brings to the table...and he ain't easily amused.

You refer to the running commentary on the parade of Joe Six-Packs trotted out to profess their undying love for BHO. That's irrelevant. This comes down to her and JSM. Not some "average folks who are dying under the repressive boot of the failed policies of the past" recruited to read a prepared tear-jerk speech from a teleprompter

Call it hackery if you will, but BHO burst on the national scene and began his meteoric ascent in one 20 minute blast-off speech at the '04 DNC. This woman is every bit at intriguing and exceptional as BHO is. Its just nut-cuttin' time for her to see if she can seal the deal with the base and the disaffected middle. If she does that, the ticket will prevail on Nov. 4.

If she doesn't? Curtains.

I think the left is frightened of her. In her, they see the potential for political dominance in '12 and '16. That's why they now rage against her.

interesting edit. again, the parade of sycophants only pertains to the other party....this is the real stuff here: "comes down to her and JSM"....what drama.

listen, what i say is the "energizing" (your words) is going to happen. it's not like "the base" is a really hard demographic to figure out. the "true conservatives" alienated by the McCain win have been moaning and groaning vociferously all summer. she'll say the right stuff and you'll all be high-fiving and grunting like MIL-F hungry warthogs in the rut for the next couple weeks.

it's less uncertain than a script. nothing is in the balance.

are you denying that if BHO hadn't hit that '04 DNC speech out the park he would'nt be where he is today? Sometimes, these speeches matter. Like his then. Like Palin's tonight.

your expectations will be fulfilled Homey.

you'll hear all the things you want to hear.

she's from a small town. just a (hot) mom who thought she could make a difference. just like you and me, not Beltway type (like Biden). works for her people. Obama is a careerist: too slick to be real (like her, aw shucks). McCain is the true candidate of change.

energy. pro-life. free markets. strong on defense, "experience" for McCain--but she'll leave the bulk of the latter for tomorrow night.

Unfortunately, now that I have met Homey, I can actually picture this scene. It's not a good vision to have in your head, ppl.

I'm not terribly concerned about what she says. I wanna see how she says it and observe the reactions on the floor. Polite golf clapping and the occasional "yee-haw" from the crowd is not gonna get it done. I wanna try to gauge if people are actually inspired. You can't fake or script that.

I hope SP doesn't mention her preggers daughter tonight. If she does, the media will see that as an invitation to attack. The republicans can't have it both ways.

Yep, I'm ready to see what she has to say.
Not to mention, I'm simply ready to see her. She's got an edge over McCain, Biden, and Obama in attractiveness no doubt. :pop:

Really? I tend to disagree here. From what I've seen of both conventions, they remind me of professional wrestling crowds. For the most part, they know what to do, and when to do it. A speaker pauses for a second, and they applaud, sometimes even standing. The rest of the time, they look to others around them to see what to do. One of the times they booed tonight, you could actually see people in the crowd looking around like, "Oh, is it time to boo?" It wouldn't surprise me a bit if they had plants in the crowd or even subtle audible cues, like in wrestling, to help with the crowd reaction. I just don't buy the reaction of a convention crowd as having any bearing. It may in reality, but it shouldn't.
