WHY SO SERIOUS? ;)

Fresno up 10-7 in fourth and are driving. Should I be surprised? Thoughts on Fresno being good, Rutgers, falling off the nat'l spotlight? Hmm...

I'm more looking forward to the 7 p.m. Tenn/UCLA game. I will spend the next hour trying to decide if I dislike Rick or Phil more... nope, still undecided. Tough call.

Curly Bill
9/1/2008, 05:55 PM
I dislike Phil more because he's a sleazebag and a fat-***. Rick is just a sleazebag.

...and Tennessee always seems to pull in some recruits we want $$$.

Cam
9/1/2008, 06:03 PM
How many field goals have Rutgers missed so far? They could've put this game away early and failed to punch it in from the 1 on 3rd and 4th downs.

badger

I, too, am disheartened by Tennessee taking Oklahoma talent out-of-state (another reason to look forward to the beatdown we give them with the home-and-home in a few years).

However, wasn't Rick an in-conference cheat and d!ck back when he was with Colorado?

Rick has never bothered me quite like he does some people. Phil on the other hand does.

9/1/2008, 06:07 PM
UCLA fans were NOT nice to us in 2005 when we visited them (not too many visited us when they came here in 2003, so I am indifferent in regards to that game). I don't think there's been many Tennessee incidents yet between Vol fans and Sooner fans, other than recruiting woe.

Curly Bill
9/1/2008, 06:07 PM
Rick is cocky/arrogant, Phil is a mediocre lard-***. Somehow that bothers me more. :D

badger
9/1/2008, 06:13 PM
Ok, so I turn around to continue contemplating whether Phil or Rick is worse, and somehow Fresno State gets the ball without Rutgers scoring any points.

OMG - a Rutgers fan wearing a Texas hat? SELLOUT. ;)

EDIT: game over, man! great run by fresno.

HELP! Game 30 minutes away and I still haven't decided who to hate more!

Rick:

After Neuheisel left, Colorado lost five of 25 scholarships for one year, and was put on two years' probation for 53 rules violations, 51 when Neuheisel was the Colorado coach from 1995-98. "This was a serious case," the NCAA's infractions committee ruling said, "in which a football coaching staff, led by the former head football coach, in a calculated attempt to gain a recruiting advantage, pushed beyond the permissible bounds of legislation, resulting in a pattern of recruiting violations."[6]

It was during his time at Colorado that he first began to be known as "Slick Rick" by his detractors, as it reflected their belief that he possessed a disingenuous personality.

For Phil:
http://3rdsaturdayinblogtober.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/fulmer.jpg

I asked NormanPride and he simply said "That's tough."

27 minutes...

It is amazing how much comtemplating one can do in the shower... and here is what I come to realize:

UCLA must rise again.

We all know that USC as a whole is not above using any recruiting means necessary, rules disregarded, to win. The only coach that will go to even further lengths to disregard the rules to win via recruiting is Rick.

Tennessee will screw up on its own, because Phil can no longer successfully navigate the SEC like he did with a certain QB named Peyton.

That being said, I can neither cheer for Phil nor Rick, but will cheer for the earthquake as it rattles the Rose Bowl to scatter the Vols and Bruins alike away from football supremacy... and I will also root for utter embarrassment of both programs on national television that could only be matched by OSU (versus Troy last year on Friday night).

Ok, so upon further review...

Tennessee must suck, so that recruits don't wanna leave Oklahoma to go there, regardless of how much money they and their families are offered.

UCLA must not suck, so that they can evenly recruit and out-cheat USC to oblivion.

...but then again, has Tennessee sucking ever stopped recruits from going there before?

 Looks like I'm still rooting for the earthquake.

The SEC is quickly becoming the new Notre Dame for me. That is, I always root for the other team to win. If it's 2 SEC teams, I root for a meteor to hit the stadium. Too much media hype about them being driven down our throats.

hard.

UCLA QB is 7-17 for 66 yards and 4 picks, one of which was just a pick six.

And they're only down 14-7.

UCLA will not score an offensive TD this game unless it is just gifted one...

Neuheisel ****s all over a program and moves on to a better gig. Fulmer will probably end up going down with the ship. Fulmer > Neuheisel

I vote "NO" on Rocky Top's orange pants. yeesh.

Fat Phil vs. Tricky Rick. I side with NP.

badger
9/1/2008, 08:58 PM
NP and I were giggling (well, I was giggling, he was just laughing) at Rick yelling at QB #3 after pick No. 3. We kept replaying it via DVR over and over. Rick's like "YOU DON'T HAVE TO THROW! THAT'S NUMBER THREE! ...STOP IT!" It was hilarious.

Considering UCLA is only down 14-7 after four picks, I think the earthquake is winning :D

You know ESPN has a HUGE woody right now. Two teams to over-hype in the LA market!!! Nausea alert.

Way to go Bruins! I adopted them as my "other" team as soon as Rick was hired and this was a great start. Not that I care about UCLA, but I just want *some* team to compete with you-know-who out in the PAC10. As much with recruiting as on the field. I can't wait for that first commitment footage of some 5 star kid pickup up the UCLA hat instead of the Trojan hat (only if OU is not in the mix, of course). I just hope Rick doesn't get them on huge probation deal.

What a nice little evening toddy: Fulmer and his goons getting beaten by a weak-*** Pac-10 squad.

Note that the Bruins virtual high school quarterback BLISTERED the Vols secondardy on 20-25 passing and +/-200 yards in the second half with 1 TD and no interceptions.

The AP reports that Gerald Jones has left Tennessee and is trying to transfer to Oklahoma. Will try to walk on next year at OU. ;)

I agree, Boulder. Having another competitive team out there can be nothing but positive for us.

That said, what are the odds Rick is on his phone to Vegas getting lines on women's gymnastics right now?

Neuheisel probably bet against UCLA tonight and used it as a team motivator.

That was a fun game to watch.... that is, after I lost interest, took a shower, turned on the TV to watch the weather. When the sports came on they mentioned the close game so I switched over....

I was pulling for UCLA to win; if those powder-blue sissys can beat an SEC power, good deal.

From Volsnation:

We should totally start playing cupcakes out of conference so we can live under the illusion that we are a good team.

Pure insight...something very OP about this statement.

But we play bad teams all the time.

The USC Public Relations team is already working over-time to dig up more dirt on Neuheisel and release it strategically around major recruiting visits.

May the Bruins grow just strong and mighty enough to significantly weaken the death-grip the Trojans have on West Coast recruiting!

Did we heavily recruit this guy, or was he fulmered from the start?

That name sounds familar. Isn' t he from Tulsa or something???

Have to asked, was Tenn fulmered or were the Pac-10 reffed?

He's from OKC. Or at least that was ESPN was saying over and over when they showed his name.

Now that you mentioned it, I wonder if he was from Midwest City.

Ja, they'd probably say that a dude from Jenks was from Tulsa, so that would make sense.

And now for... the moments of the game, brought to you by Old Spice and their funny commercials:

A$$hole Coach of the (Post)Game: Fulmer, for burying UCLA after they beat his arse. "We made enough mistakes tonight to fill three or four games... We will play better teams than UCLA is, and I know we're a better team than we were tonight."

A$$hole Coach of the Game(Itself): Neuheisel, who was seen on national television yelling the shizzle out of QB McInterception after pick No. 3. "You don't have to throw it! That's No. 3! STOP IT!"

Bonehead Play of the Game, Second Half: Tennessee Offense, whose new wristbands mentioned by ESPN surely shouldn't have called for the QB to backpedal into the RB.

Walking Home Award: The Tennessee kicker - Lincoln I think his name is. While Phil said the OT kick miss from under 40 yards didn't put the loss on Lincoln, he had two misses (and another that was called back for a retry) during the game itself.

Sideline 15 Minutes of Fame: The security guard, who after Lincoln's OT wide left, got the first hug from Neuheisel on the UCLA sideline. Dude lost his hat.
