He has art hanging in the Oklahoma state capitol building, and is perhaps best known around here for his massive triptychs called Windows to the West, hung in the Sam Noble special events room at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in OKC.

He had lived in New Mexico for years, but was a proud Oklahoman.

R.I.P.

You can't really tell the scale of these from this picture, but it's the best I could do. They are 18' tall and the three are 46' wide. This is only one of FIVE triptychs hanging in that room. They are stunning. The Grand Canyon triptych comes the closes to capturing the experience of seeing the canyon than any representation I have ever seen.

Another "famous" guy died recently that was from and lived in Tulsa. If you were a Magnum P.I. fan, you will remember him....Jeff MacKay. I never knew he was from around here.

yes, nice addition to a great dead artist thread.

Speaking of great art, I don't know if this person is dead or alive.

Not one of the Cowboy Museum triptychs, but shows one of his many great Grand Canyon representations:

He didn't paint this one, but he wrote the introduction to the book (which I assume is because it is another artist that paints with dramatic clouds and light). Ran across the cover when looking for other of Hurley's work, and know a few on here would dig it:
