He asked for $25 trillion or some amount, to re-build. I'd think with that much, he could afford to pay school bus drivers enough to get them to stick around.

This could knock the hell out of the cash grain basis for awhile.

There are still some here. I actually live next door to one who is very cool and very productive. The bad thing is they got a bad name from a few of them.

We didn't get rid of all the riff-raff the first time. Maybe we'll crank up the school buses and MAKE everybody go west this time.

As for the levees: Ask the Corps of Engineers. Oh yeah, they're the same ones who said the old levees were OK. We're ****ed.

As soon as I saw this thread...

I thought...somebody better go wake TUSooner up or he's gonna miss another hurricane. ;)

Glad your ready for this one. :D

If you want to turn that thing towards Texas...you better call Barrack and ask him nice like.

From nearly all accounts that I've heard, people wanted to be welcoming and help Nawlins people, but once they arrived, their willingness to help gave way to security concerns.

Here are some links that will answer levee questions:
May 22, 08 (Boston Globe): $22 million in repairs, levee still leaks (http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/05/22/leaking_levee_in_new_orleans_alarms_experts/)

Aug. 23, 08 (Assoc. Press): Department of Defense to check levees (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hmBnTmYfO8G1nFXJCplVkt43L4ZAD92OB9A80)

Aug. 26 08 (USA Today): Update on progress in NO on all fronts (http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2008/08/three-years-aft.html)

There are definitely safety concerns, but people are more prepared this time. I think a large issue last time was that people weren't evacuating - they were camping on rooftops waiting the storm out.

Have they started busing people out yet or are they gonna wait until the heavy stuff starts ripping off the Superdome's Roof? :D ;)

Maybe Big D will open up Texas Stadium to the N'Awlins folks.

Wait - nevermind. The stadium already has a hole in the roof.

N'awlins' extremity is Bobbie Jindal's opportunity....watch the young governor wow the nation with his preparation and execution.

There's three more areas of concern behind Gustav. :gary:

Could be a long two weeks for the southeast coast.

Wow. If it sticks to the center of the new 5 day cone, it's headed straight for NO.
