DENVER, COLORADO (AFP) - John McCain's campaign has hit back at Madonna after the pop diva kicked off her world tour with a concert that bracketed the US presidential candidate with Adolf Hitler.

McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds angrily condemned the segment of Madonna's concert in Cardiff on Saturday that appeared to draw a comparison between McCain, Hitler and Zimbabwean strongman Robert Mugabe.
"The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time," Bounds said in a statement reported by Fox News.
"It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."
Madonna's apparent swipe at McCain came during a performance of the song "Get Stupid", when the Republican contender's image was flashed up alongside images of destruction and global warming as well as Hitler and Mugabe.
Towards the end of the song, pictures of Beatles star John Lennon, former US vice-president Al Gore, Indian Mahatma Gandhi and McCain's Democrat rival Barack Obama appeared.

The McCain camp shouldn't have even responded, they actually give the story more life that way. But I was thinking this was gonna be about, maybe Madonna needs to start wearing more clothes on stage.:eek:

And I agree with whoever said McCain's peeps shoulda neglected to issue any statement.
Madonna's whole situation is sortof sad, I mean, not long ago she had the world at her fingertips but suddenly she's reduced to sending over-the-top political messages at her concerts as she prances around in something we'd rather not see a withered, haggardly 50-whatever wearing -- she's stealing babies from poor Africans, her marriage is failing, her teenager has pretty much written her off as a parent and she's sometimes caught sporting a fake British accent.
Please, just stop and hole up somewhere. I want to remember you as the hawt Madonna of 1982, not the dried-up, twisted kook you've become.
McCain's campaign just lost a fantastic opportunity to pick up points with geeks and the younger generation by simply citing Goodwins Law (that over time, as discussion about anything grows, the probability that someone will invoke a comparison to Hitler approaches 1), and it's more well known corrolary (that the person invoking such a comparison is automatically considered to be the loser of that debate).
Seriously. McCains geek cred would have shot through the roof, and he would have scored some zinger points in the media.
