View Full Version : Football Widow Weekend

So what is everyone doing on the LAST weekend of the year without college football?

Well, the wife is a few months pregnant and ready to embrace the pain that is college football in my house, so I am doing what I can. We are going to the Wigwam Resort and Spa Saturday just outside Phoenix. And even though they have three golf courses I am not even taking my clubs...I know, I know.

We are going to have some Pizzeria Bianco's Saturday night and do the spa thing Sunday morning along with brunch so she can eat smoked salmon and capers...YUCK! Oh, well.

I suggest you all think about the significant lady in your life this weekend and roll out the red carpet as best you can, because after this weekend...well...this blog sums it up best...

My wife can't wait for football season to start. I made sure we had certain things figured out (sports, motorcycles, etc.) before we got to the marriage part.

Good on ya Maestro. More than an excellent paying of penance in advance.

As for the significant ladies in my life, they got all my money, cars, houses, boats, etc., etc. a while back, so yah, I will think of them this weekend.

I'll be starting my meditation to get ready for the season, usually takes about a week. The girl is starting to like college football a lot.

Good thread by the way, I figured this thread would come about soon.
I am thinking about redoing our front flower bed this weekend. I may even get a start on it some nights this week so that I show a week long dedication to a project that she would like to see finished.
My wife knows every year I am consumed with football season..through that she has grown to (somewhat) like football and she knows quite a bit about it from my brainwashing her I'm sure. That being said, she can live without football....I however cannot.
So I'll try to be an outgoing manual laborer this weekend. And if I somehow get her approval to go play golf this weekend, I will still squeeze that in. But I doubt that will happen, because I played yesterday.

probably mountain biking. Im kind of resigned to the fact that I wont get to watch the Mocs game. For long distance relationships, sacrifices have to be made sometimes.... (its just UT-Chatanooga, so I can explain missing the game, right?....)

do my annual "football house cleaning" :D Most people do spring cleaning, I do football cleaning. Because I certainly don't have time during the fall. My house stays a comfortable livable clean then. I have games to watch!!

I am heading up to lake tahoe with a bunch of friends. We always take a trip the weekend before to keep our minds off of it.

Drinking, Gambling, fishing, clubbing. Only thing missing is football.

I've given it deep thought and, to mark my return to my natal land and thus the first televised OU football that I will have seen in 14 years, there was only one really viable decision.

I'm getting divorced.

needed to really clear the decks and rid myself of extraneous distractions prior to the season opener.

Talk about taking one for the team!!!
LOL

Us? Anniversary is Friday, so we're going to relax in the Texas Hill Country.
As a freind of mine says "My wife drives the bus on this deal (OU Football)".
No widows in our household.

Welllll, it might not have been truly a cause/effect kind of deal, strictly speaking.

And it might not have been my idea. Completely. Fully.

But, by God, I'll take all the credit for it I possibly can.

Maybe someone will buy me a beer.

I'll go camping this weekend with Mr. NMS (who hates football and considers himself a football widower). I'll also get my cable reinstalled (I don't bother with cable except during football season, cause really what else is there to watch besides CFB?), get caught up on some paperwork so that I won't have to think about it again this year.

Then my Saturdays will be ALL MINE until January.

I love this time of year.

I'll also go buy a couple of cases of wine so I won't run the risk of not having enough to make it through the season.

A big day? Doing what? Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

Thank goodness my step-daughter picked last weekend to get married. We're just gonna recuperate from all that drama and get our wind for the season...

Playing football... srsly.

A bunch of old HS and college friends are playing flag football on Saturday. I'm so gonna school 'em. They've all averaged gaining about 30 lbs a piece since our school days, I'm still 6'1 and not a pound over 185. :D

Srsly... it's the closest I can ever come to being the top overall pick. :D

That sounds like a good time. And your wife will play too, or she's cool with you bailing to play?
