Yahoo! Users Top-Rated Sci-Fi Films (http://movies.yahoo.com/photos/collections/gallery/970/yahoo-users-toprated-scifi-films#photo0)

What's missing on this list? Robocop? 2001? Blade Runner? Several on this list are way too high as others are way too low. If they put in superhero movies then where is Batman? Not to mention that the #1 is a pure joke. This list had to be done by 10 year olds.

It shows how weak the genre of science fiction is in films. Maybe best to stick with sci-fi literature if you want something of quality.

There are some quite mediocre films in that list of 30. Without special effects, downright BORING. Jurassic Park? Did anyone give a damn about any of the one-dimensional characters? Terrible script. Ghostbusters was a good song, but very overrated film. In fact without the catchy song, it would be a totally forgettable film. Close encounters is one of the most overrated sci-fi flicks ever. Long and B-O-R-I-N-G.

They missed one of the most underrated sci-fi's ever: Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

Too early to judge Ironman on a list like this. I thought it was very good.

In my mind, the more a film has to rely on special effects, the weaker the overall film tends to be. They're usually short on character development and script.

The list does have some good ones: Eternal Sunshine, Terminator, ET, The Day the Earth Stood Still. Stars Wars was a good, not great, futuristic western. Alien was pretty good.

Blade Runner
2001: A Space Odyssey
THX 1138
Flash Gordon - yes, I love that flick.

yeah, and how many of those flicks on there don't really seem like sci-fi?

if a lot of those are sci-fi, where's Mad Max?

Serenity making it is about the only "pleasant" surprise. but even Whedon geeks were outnumbered by last year's box office minions (Iron Man and Transformers? muhfugga please.)

outside Star Wars and Close Encounters which brought the sub-genre into high-budget mainstream cinema, it's hard to argue against 2001, Blade Runner, or the artsy pick is Andrei Tarkovsky's "Solaris". that's a great, difficult classic film. not the one with George Clooney.

The classics aren't even represented here, let alone the actual best sci-fi movie of all time........
