The OKC NBA team picked up DMase in a 3 team trade, detailed here (http://newsok.com/okc-nba-team-acquires-desmond-mason-in-three-team-trade/article/3283052/?tm=1218655971). Personally, I'm glad to see it, because I really like Mase as a player and as a person (got to know him a little bit while he was here with the Hornets), and it takes Luke Ridnour out of the mix in OKC. Don't ask me why, but I have never liked Ridnour.

OKC also gets Joe Smith from Cleveland.

I know Mason was an aggroid, but if you know anything about his background, he has a pretty inspiring story. Plus, he busts his ***. Glad to have him back.

I agree. I have no problem cheering for Mason.

plus, he's got that goofy hitch in his free throws

It's a strong move from a couple of standpoints.

1. Mason is a stronger defender than Luke Ridnour. Then again, this chair I'm sitting in is a defensive upgrade from Luke Ridnour.

2. Public-relations wise, it's good to get a "local" player out on the court.

Not a great shooter, but he does pretty much everything else really, really well. And I can't think of many guys in the league who play harder.

He did however attend college somewhere in Oklahoma.

Not too far from there actually. Just drive to Langston, roll your windows down and then drive in the direction of the pig**** smell.

No, but students from both schools hang out at the same Whataburger.

If we can just trade for Chris Paul, Tyson Chandler and David West, plus get Byron Scott to come here, I'm all over this team like white on rice.

Mason add nothing to the team but the ability to dunk and a huge liability on free throws. Why they would bother is beyond me.

You forgot tough-as-nails defense, veteran leadership, and pre-existing ties to the community. As young as these guys are, they need a veteran guy to help them get out of the blocks and form a team identity. Considering how green and inexperienced they are overall, they also need some people to step up on D if they are going to have any chance to stay in most games.

And with no history whatsoever in OKC, they need a guy who can get them connected to the community in a hurry, and who can assure his team mates that OKC is a good place to play and to live during the season, despite what they may have heard from people in Seattle.

I think it's a really good trade.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a really good trade...he is a pretty big liability in half-court offensive sets. But Jed, you raise some good points. Doesn't hurt that it clears cap space.

Hey, we all know his superstar status peaked when he won the slamdunk championship, what, six years ago? When I say picking him up is a good move, I mean that you got a dependable, tough, journeyman player who is community and locker room gold. Not a bad play at all. Except for the aggy part.

He probabaly wouldn't mind it, especially considering the fact that he still lives here.
