View Full Version : Texas fans the devil??

I"ve had some serious arguments over the years. I sincerly believe that whorn fans are the worst people of the earth. I am a life long (and graduated) sooner. But, I am also a season ticket holder for the Houston Texans. I believe that the houstonians that root for Vince Young instead of the Texans are terrible people. They hold up the horns sign like Texas is playing. Why?? I love AD but would not root against my home town team. I think whorn fans do it just to be bad people. As soon as the Texans start doing well, they will go away. Thoughts?

htown, We have been in Katy since 1992 and we too have season tix to the Texans. My wife swapped her support to them from the vacated domers that moved to Tennessee. I remain a Cowboys fan.

Your description of the majority of UT fans is dead on. They are the most myopic, narcissistic, self-loathing and hypocritical bunch in history. Their team simply has never, ever come out on the short end of a competition without being cheated by someone or some deity somewhere. They are the dictionary picture next to the entry; "victim".

It is incredibly difficult being a Sooner fan deep in the South of Texas.

The Texans had the opportunity to draft Vince. Their QB at the time, David Carr, was Gary Beban reincarnated. (who was ironically, let go the very next year).

Thousands of Texas alums live and work in Houston.

The marketing potential which would have been generated by Vince would have been astronomical. The Texans would have received millions more in revenue from jersey sales, marketing opportunities had they drafted Vince. Again, keep in mind they needed a quarterback who was mobile (since their offensive line was horrid)...

It was .. the perfect situation.

And... they drafted a defensive end.. who.. although is good, will never be transcendant ...

Opposing fans aren't "the worst"....Colorado fans are the worst. LSU cretin fans are the worst. K state and so on.

As far as "what have any of them done to us?" Go to Boulder and wear an OU shirt and let us know how that works out.

LSU: Imagine a purple adult day care the size of Enid and all the kids are mainlining roid rage flavored Capri Sun. They're shocked with cattle prods and drenched in liquor for 3 straight days prior to your arrival. That way you can smell a 46 year old man's crawfish stained crooked teeth when he screams tigah bait in your face.

I have never left the Cotton Bowl with texas fans throwing beer bottles at me outside the stadium or threatening to kill me inside of the stadium

8/5/2008, 10:53 AM
Have you been to the RRS?

Yes, five times... actually six, but that last one was not as a fan. As such, I have seen them chant "OU SUCKS" and such in their fight song and directly at us, but I've also heard defiant Oklahoma chicks call Texas girls "Texas sluts" so it's not like we're really getting anything done to us that we won't return :D

All I have seen between OU and Texas fans (other than that media report of the bar incident in OKC) is verbal exchange, much like Lid and I are now having at another thread. Whoop de freakin' hoo. If anything OU fans are awful to Texas, because we have the tunnel side of the Cotton Bowl. I've seen some awful stuff get tossed on the players down there

The worst fans I've seen are Oregon in Oregon, UCLA at UCLA and KSU at KSU. These fans will actually throw stuff which might qualify as assault, I dunno. Other than these three fanbases, it's all been verbal. Ouch! Words hurt me! Whine whine.

Thing that sticks in my mind is us walking out of the stadium at K State and a group of their fans calling my friend and his 7 year old son faggots for holding hands. mind you we already are being escorted by police because of threats and thrown beer bottles..and sad to say it wasn't just students either

Colorado is the worst. They stoop to over the top rage and violence at the drop of a hat. They boo every call against them no matter how obvious. They don't respect a hurt player when he's down. They just suck.

The RRS games I was at were from the 70's to early 90's. I think Commerce Street on Friday night during the 70's and 80's was a much more volatile situation than the West End is now but even then I never experienced or witnessed an altercation that escalated from verbal to physical*. Ultimately, however, the shooting death of an Oklahoma student in downtown Dallas marked the end of the Commerce Street festivities to something more controllable.

My beef about whorn fans comes from their over-the-top arrogance about anything and everything Texas (the state) and saxet (the school), which in my experience (in addition to the aforementioned games, lived 11 years in Dallas) is greatly exaggerated. Yes, Sooner fans are proud to point to OUr football success but I think as a group we are just as forthcoming to point out OUr foibles. In the early 70's there were these bumper stickers that were popular following a song with a similar refrain, Its' hard to be humble when you're a Sooner? Around 1977 some Sooners sported bumper stickers that read, It's hard not to fumble when you're a Sooner. We can laugh at ourselves. I don't think there has ever been a saxet fan who could take a jibe.

* There was a Commerce Street incident one year involving my sister-in-law and a lubricated whorn . . . Seems this saxet dude and some Sooners were jawing back and forth and for some reason the whorn had a baseball bat (on Commerce Street on Friday night!). The Sooners had turned their backs to the guy whilst waiting for the light to cross the street. He decides to sucker punch a Sooner with the bat. Just as was at the apex of his backswing my sister-in-law, all 115 pounds of her and standing off to the side of this guy, reached up and gave the end of the bat a little push. He fell over backwards into a another group of saxet fans and an altercation breaks out between him and them! My brother, his wife and friends take off across the street to put distance between them and the brouhaha before the police, who were right there in force, could come to sort things out.

Vince Young is an average NFL quarterback, at best. You guys talk about him being "transcendant." This is exactly what I'm talking about. Vince Young was a great college football player. There are great college football players all the time. Texas is not the be all end all, why can't you guys figure that out? Do USC guys talk about Leinart being "transcendant?" How about us with Jason White? What did Vince Young do that they didn't? Don't get me wrong, he is an exceptional athlete, but you guys never have an appropriate sense of self. Then again, maybe your right. He is the best human being to ever put on a football uniform, how did our poor little Sooners get so lucky to run up the score on him (and MOST of it was while he was on the field) in 2003? We must have gotten just so lucky to SHUT HIM OUT in 2004. He won once against us. Really freaking transcendant.

and I say you are completely wrong. Mario Williams has proven to be a good decision and will be a perrenial all-pro candidate for 10 years barring injury. Vince Young would have been a major screw up because the marketing aspect would last for a couple years and then Texans fans would get tired of the suckage just like the Titans fans are now. Vince is going to be a coach killer for Fisher just like Vick was for Reeves.

Let me begin by saying I live in Houston and cannot imagine any fans being worse than tu.
I coached qb's for 38 years and believe VJ to be just about the best college player I have ever seen. I also predicted from before the draft the he would not transfer very well to the NFL. To begin with he has a horrible release. Now don't give me some stuff about so and so heving an unorthodox release and he made it. He has the worst I have ever seen. Consequently he cannot make some of the throws a top qb must make. Like the 18 yd. out and the pass to the tight end past the backers and before the safties can reach. To little margin for error. Second, I don't believe that he can learn all the things he needs to learn in an NFL playbook plus the 70 or so checks. There is a reason for the test they give at the combine.
I don't say the things as a knock on him as a person or his character. He can improve with time but I don't believe enough to become a top qb. I do wish him the best and hope I am wrong.

Vince Young is an average NFL quarterback, at best.

Vince is a young NFL quarterback. His offensive coordinator could not adapt his offense to the NFL.. that's why he's no longer there. Will Vince continue to develop? Who knows.. .but there were MANY on here who said Vince would never even start an NFL game. Many on here said he would never be a great college quarterback.. that he was merely a "wide receiver" playing quarterback.

You guys talk about him being "transcendant." This is exactly what I'm talking about. Vince Young was a great college football player. There are great college football players all the time.

How many great college football players have rushed for 1000 yards and passed for 3000 in the same season? How many great college football players set a Rose Bowl and MNC title game record for most yards gained in a game? How many great college football players led his team on a 2 minute drive to win a national championship? I'll wait while you come up with roll call of that class... and it won't take long.

Texas is not the be all end all, why can't you guys figure that out? Do USC guys talk about Leinart being "transcendant?" How about us with Jason White? What did Vince Young do that they didn't?

See previous remarks.

Now.. it's ok.. take a deep breath... he's not wearing burnt orange anymore. It's ok to grow up a little bit and put away your "I hate everything Texas" glasses.

For example.... if the Minnesota Vikings line jells, Adrian Peterson, if he can stay healthy, has the chance to be one of the best runners in NFL history. He's a great combination of size and speed, and despite coming from a family background in which his father was less than an ideal role model, by all accounts, he is a very good human being and gives back to the community. Yes, I understand he went to OU. I would have been thrilled to have him at Texas.. but good luck in his future.

That may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that all OU fans are going to heaven and all Texas fans are going to hell.

Sorry, Lid. It's out of our hands. Take it up with God.;)

Do we get 72 virgins down there too?

Oklahoma State fans are the worst fans around.

Saxet fans are simply delusional. They've bought into the "we're Texas" mentality. Regardless of what logic you put in their face, the response is "we're Texas". A mental salve they apply to keep them from having to think.

Shouldn't you be arguing with all of the conservatives on the South Oval?.. or polishing Obama's cuff links or something? ;)

At least Texas fans have a tradition to brag about. OSU fans on the other hand . . . I just don't get them. Sit amongst them every other year in the south end zone. Rudest fans I've ever been around including last year's Miami game, not that it was a whole lot better.

Puke state fans are worse...include all the horrible cocky behavior from texas fans but take out the success...it really is bafflingThat ain't true! It is garbage! Cowpukes can rassle. :)
