Traficant was acquitted of the charges, becoming the only person ever to win a RICO case while representing himself.

That's pretty amazing.

I adore James Traficant. He's crazy, but he's my kind of crazy.

Back in high school, I was in D.C. for two weeks with a couple of leadership programs and we spent a bunch of time on Capitol Hill. I had a lot of free time, so I figured I'd go over to Traficant's office and take a chance on meeting the guy. So, I find his office and it's tucked WAY the hell away in some obscure corner. I walk into the office and I tell the receptionist, "Hi my name is SicEm and I'm neither from Ohio nor a Democrat but I love Congressman Traficant and would like to meet him." Well, she told me he was on the house floor so I asked if I could have one of his official photos. That's all good and great so she is rummaging through some cabinet looking for the photo when Traficant himself walks in and she tells him why I'm there. The guy was as nice as he could be and invited me into his office for a few moments. He asked my name, where I was from, etc. and then gave me an autographed photo. :D
