...what the hell happened to hard rock?

The musicianship was pretty tight for a lot of these groups, with pretty much everything being in the speed metal vein, but when did everyone decide that "Hey, I'm going to try to sound like Killing Joke" was the way to go for vocals?

Every dang song went like "Waugh waugh waugh grr waugh grrrr."

Maybe I'm getting old.

Killing Joke was alright, in a euro-postpunk, on the way to being industrial pioneers sort of way.

Maybe I'm getting old.

Yeah, I've decided that's what's wrong with my lack of appreciation of most new music too. :(

How old are you guys?

I just turned 31 today and I feel the same way. There are some groups that are cool to listen to today, but I like the music from the late 80's and early 90's. Rap was alot better, rock was alot better and country wasn't pop.

Dressing like a Priest with whip marks on his back was revolutionary?

Looks a little David Bowie to me.

Don't recall where I read it, but this sums up Coldplay perfectly: U2 with a piano.

Don't recall where I read it, but this sums up Coldplay perfectly: U2 with a piano and a vagina.

Fixed for better accuracy.

What happened to metal is that Cliff Burton died and Metallica became Alternatallica. Dimebag Darrell was shot and Pantera became like, three different bands. Sigh. At least Iron Maiden is still touring... which is good since they're better than any of the other watered-down crap that's out there right now.
