I am talking the type of movies that if they come on TV for immediately realize 2-3 hours of your day is automatically done for. Mine are:

Shawshank Redemption
Rounders
Fight Club
Gangs of New York
The Empire Strikes Back
The Dark Knight*
Tombstone
The Departed
V for Vendetta

* I realize it is not on TV yet, but I'm projecting with 17% of the precincts in.

im offended none of you has suggested dumb and dumber.

That's b/c it's not a "guy" movie. That would go under the "ghey" movie thread.

It's understandable you would get confused.

yermom
7/29/2008, 12:48 PM
for a true guy movie, you need the qualification that the SO/wife is not amused, and likely gone for the 2-3 hour duration :D

i'd add Dumb and Dumber

shaun4411
7/29/2008, 12:49 PM
dumb and dumber is a timeless classic. kind of like office space. its a total guy movie because only guys like it.

OU4LIFE

Shoot 'Em Up

quite possibly the worst movie on this planet.

ok, maybe not that bad, but really, really, really, really bad.

TheUnnamedSooner
7/29/2008, 12:50 PM
Someone forgot to tell my wife and her sister that, b/c anytime they get together for a length of time they watch it. Therefore it is automatically disqualified as a guy movie. (dumb and dumber that is)

shaun4411
7/29/2008, 12:50 PM
i want to watch it now

4LIFE,
It was meant to be as campy as it was. Director said so. I think the unbelievability factor is what makes it fun. ANd it's an hour and a half of non-stop violence coupled with Monica Bellucci. What's not to like.

I forgot:
RoadHouse
The Big Lebowski
40 year old virgin
Full Metal Jacket

and the ultimate, the one I consider the best christmas movie ever:
Die Hard

Tulsa_Fireman
7/29/2008, 01:02 PM
The Dirty Dozen
The Great Escape
The Big Red One
Stalag 17

The Program
The Longest Yard (1974)

Top Gun. Fave part, when they part from kissing as he had her backed up against the wall. In the silouette you can see the slobber string out of her mouth. Want me somathat!

Oh hell, I forgot the following as well:

Saving Private Ryan
Any episode of Band of Brothers

the ridiculous violence had me laughing during a lot of the movie

i'm not saying it's deserving of an Oscar or anything, but it's a lot of fun and certainly belongs on this list :D

I disagree. The best christmas movie ever was:

Scrooged

Can't beat that. Well, A Christmas Story is up there too.

pergdaddy

Unnamed,

Don't worry, most disagree with my assessment. Five movies to watch at Christmas time : Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Bad Santa, Polar Express and Die Hard.

Good Point...

I had the Brothers as my Avatar for quite awhile.

I enjoyed the premise of that film...

I extremely enjoyed when they blew the white cat all over the wall with the handgun. :D

"Is it OK?"

That question made me laugh my a$$ off.....

- The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
- Animal House
- Caddyshack
- Godfather 1 and 2
- Pulp Fiction
- The Longest Yard (NOT the remake)
- Every Bond Movie EXCEPT "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (Lazenby + Bond getting married = Lame)
- Full Metal Jacket
- Blazing Saddles
- Porky's 1 (while I also love the next two, they're not of the same ilk)
- The Departed
- Boondock Saints (Yeah, I edited this to add it, although I left it off before mainly because I'm p*ssed the sequel isn't out yet.)

I dare you. Top that list. In fact, I'm going to write it down before I forget it. It just became my Bachelor Party list.

That barely qualifies as subtext. On the DVD commentary, Tony Scott cops to adding that scene in order to--ahem--expand the potential audience.

Not that I don't love me some Top Gun. :O
