University of Oklahoma football player Auston English, an All-Big 12 Conference defensive end, is out for an indefinite period due to a procedure to remove his appendix.

The illness is not life-threatening and English is expected to make a full recovery. "I don't know that he'll start practice," said OU spokesman Kenny Mossman, "but he'll play in the opener."

The Sooners report for training camp on Sunday and begin practice the next day. Media Day and Meet the Sooners Day is Aug. 6. OU opens the season on Aug. 30 against Tennessee-Chattanooga.

English last week was named preseason Big 12 defensive player of the year in voting of league media. He was also named to the preseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award, which goes to college football's top defensive end.

Last season he led the conference with 9.5 quarterback sacks despite missing more than three games because of a broken bone in his leg and was named first-team All-Big 12.

The 6-foot-3, 253-pound junior from Canadian, Texas, finished with 36 tackles last year, including 13 for loss.

Give me a break. I had my appendix removed last summer and I was fully capable to go on a beach vacation 2 weeks later.

Heh.

I don't know what you're doing on your vacations, but if they're a reasonable facsimile of full-pads football practice, you're doing it seriously right.

Has he had the surgery yet? If not he's in my prayers. There is no such thing as minor surgery, god bless.

Aside from the minor rug burns one might get on a beach vacation. This is bad news for English- may be tough to stay in shape and at game speed with out practice.

I am sure he is not really pissed about missing two a days though-

Wow, 12 posts was all it took before the fat bottom girl pictures. So much for English. Let's just try to connect appendix removal to 320 lb. apes... which are actually gurls... which are now in picture form.

TO GET BACK ON SUBJECT, Awwwzzzzton *refuses to spell out that saxet whorn town* English will be fine, methinks. He may be tender in that area which will limit contact, but like Kenny said, he should be ready in a month for the opener.

As long as there are no complications, he should be 100% in a matter of weeks, I'd think.

I had mine out when I was 2-3 years older than him. Mine didn't burst and I really wasn't ill leading up to it. I was 100% in less than two weeks. I was only sore for 3 days max.

I would guess he will be just fine by the time the season starts.

You got that **** right! I learned that about two weeks ago when they did my knee surgery. I will never trust another doctor as long as I live.

Good, superfluous internal organs should be removed from all of our players so they can run faster!

More room for muscle

If it wasn't burst, then they can probably get it with a scope and the main impact will be mostly missing the bulk of 2 a days. (no incision through major muscle bulk).
It could be much worse. Hope he's better, soon.

Of all the positions where we could afford to miss a guy for a bit, this is the one. The talent at the DE position is truly frightening. Get well soon, Auston!

Just shows you how much luck plays a role along the way in getting to a national championship. Better now than during the season. I want him healthy by Oct. 11. :-)

In all seriousness, it's not that he will be in pain in two weeks, he'll just be more tired than normal. It's a good idea for him to take it easy for a bit then ease back into his normal routine.

Bob Barry Sr? I can't even imagine. Hope you didn't get any pictures.

Did he drop his keys?

Blitzkrieg

I could see bob in 1960s pads, with the one piece white plastic facemask that forms two bars with the two down supports and the little square piece that sticks down off the upper bar right in the middle (WTF was that thing anyway?), big hip pads that stick way up with the cloth and the belt that passed thru all of your waist pads, and the obligatory mesh shirt running out to the practice. He'd do some old school stretches, hit on his own shoulder pads in a weak *** pretend fit of rage.

First play he'd clothesline chris brown decleating him and saying "Najera for threee,.......... no, I mean I think I broke his freakin neck."

Gawd help us.
