View Full Version : The John Edwards Love Child

Why are we only getting spotty reports of this?

Now it's being reported that he was sneaking out of a Beverly Hills Hilton at 2:30 a.m. - from the room registered to Baby Mama, and when confronted by reporters from The National Enquirer, he hurriedly dashed into a restroom. 15 minutes later he calls for security to come escort him out.

Is there gonna be a Britney-esque mental breakdown with this one? No goddam way Obama picks Baby Daddy as VP or Atty General with a love child scandal in the picture.

Hell, he may have to go back to work at the hedge fund to support Family #2.

Johnny, tell us it ain't so!

Spotty reports? He's a donk, most of the media is donk. He's one of theirs.

Add in that the Enquirer scooped this, and well what other media outlet wants to follow in the footsteps of the Enquirer?

Does this give you some insight why?

LAT Gags Blogs: In a move that has apparently stirred up some internal discontent, the Los Angeles Times has banned its bloggers , including political bloggers, from mentioning the Edwards/Rielle Hunter (http://www.nationalenquirer.com/sen_john_edwards_caught_with_mistress_and_love_chi ld_in_la_hotel/celebrity/65193) story. Even bloggers who want to mention the story in order to make a skeptical we-don't-trust-the-Enquirer point are forbidden from doing so. Kausfiles has obtained a copy of the email Times bloggers received from editor Tony Pierce. [I've excised the recipient list and omitted Pierce's email address]:

Hey bloggers,
There has been a little buzz surrounding John Edwards and his alleged affair. Because the only source has been the National Enquirer we have decided not to cover the rumors or salacious speculations. So I am asking you all not to blog about this topic until further notified.
If you have any questions or are ever in need of story ideas that would best fit your blog, please don't hesitate to ask
Keep rockin,
Tony

The National Enquirer broke the story so you know it's true.

All he has to do is sue them if he can prove it's not true. There's DNA and whatnot.

But, wait, there's that matter of Two America's that needs to be settled first.

Too bad every Baby Daddy across the fruited plain don't have Edwards' resources. Kudos to him for wanting to see the kid - if, you know, it's his and all.

Count me as one who doesn't care what slimy things slimy people do behind closed doors. Who cares? All this does is hurt a woman battling cancer for the sake of losers with no life getting their "gossip." She probably already knew though.

This guy wanted to be president, he's still in a position to set public policy, I care that he's not living up to the high standards he would have us mere mortals follow.

Meh - you're probably right. We've been sold on the Edwards tradition of going to Wendy's every year on their anniversary, since that's where they went on their 1st anniversary.

Since extramarital affairs are no biggie, and this one is only left to a cancer-suffering wife, it has no bearing on John's credibility or integrity.

I think I understand now.

It's a big deal if Repubs do it. I remember the hell that Newt Gingrich got for leaving his cancer-ridden wife for another woman.

right! it is the unequal treatment by the press and pols, based on the political party of the "offender" that is the rub with this story!

prob has a lot to do with the republican party trying to regulate morality. honestly though, this kind of stuff doesn't bother me, dem or repub. on the other hand, if a senator or any public official has spent much of his/her career trying to stamp out homosexuality, then later turns out to be gay themselves, then i have a problem. dem or pub.

I didn't say he wasn't a scumbag. I coulda told you that 4 years ago. I guess I'm railing on this countries obsession with gossip. Report it it you have to and move on. I don't need hours of tv about it and don't want to waste breath or bandwith talking about it.(Which I'm doing now)

I agree. If the guy had won the nomination or something then I can understand this coming out, but he's out of office and just another private *********. Let his wife be in peace while she battles cancer and save the story for another day.

Nope. He can't win a libel claim on the truth alone. He has to have more than that because of a little Supreme Court case from a few years back.

Because the Enquirer, like "real" newspapers, has a First Amendment right to print what it wants, a/k/a the freeedom of the press, the only way Edwards (a public figure) beats them, is if the Enquirer willfully or recklessly printed a falsity about the guy.

Thus, if the Enquirer thought the story was true when they ran it, and were'nt oblivious to "red flags" that would make most journalists pause, Enquirer wins. Otherwise, the freedom of the press would be "chilled."

Interestingly, baby mama might have a better chance of prevailing if the story is false. Non-public figures can win if a paper was merely negligent in printing a falsity. A much lower standard BTW.

Thus, my money is on the truth of the story. You can bet the Enquirer is pretty dang careful on this kind of stuff because of the possibility of serious liability if they just make stuff up. I bet the editors checked out the facts very carefully.

Homey - I am a non-reader of The National Enquirer, so I couldn't tell you what they've published regarding this.

The whole story is salacious and it may not garner as much interest if Edwards' name was not being tossed around as a possible VP or AG candidate. The fact that a man with his money and resources is in a hotel at 2:30 a.m. running into a bathroom to get away from reporters is enough to raise some eyebrows.

And apparently there's a whole lot more to this than just the repercussions of raw sexual lust, which affects the greasy haired teenager in the backseat of a Camaro just as much as a U.S. senator with perfectly coiffed hair.

There's a campaign aide with a wife and kids of his own who's stepped forward to claim to be Baby Daddy. Who is this woman, Anna Nicole Smith??

At least it was with a woman, so he has most republicans beat. :P

(CNN) – Former U.S. senator and Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards admitted to an extramarital affair in an interview with ABC News, the network reported Friday. He denied being the father of the woman's child, as had been alleged in tabloid reports.

Asked by a reporter late last month whether he had provided any financial support to Rielle Hunter, or to Andrew Young — the former Edwards aide who claimed paternity of the child — Edwards replied that "I have no idea what you are asking about, I have responded to consistently to these tabloid allegations by saying I don't respond to these lies." He also said again that he had not lied during his presidential campaign when he denied an affair with Hunter.

It's not real important news, but for the political junkies on the news networks......it's a piranha feeding frenzy.

Now get ready for the obligatory news conference where John Edwards will apologize to his wife and family publicy with his wife standing grudglingly behind him. We've all seen this before http://forums.mystery-axiom.com/images/smilies/woodchip2.gif

On a serious note, as I am usually a democrat supporter and actually supported Edwards in the primaries.......I am kind of pissed off at him and his wife as well. Apparently he revealed this transgression to Elizabeth in 2006 and yet the both of them decided his political career was more important than jeopardizing the presidential candidacy by covering this up and entering the race.

A normal person may be allowed to say this was a private matter and noone else's business but that doesn't apply to public servants IMO. So stuff your sorrys in a sack mister, and just go away now.
