I just installed Visual C++ Express 2008, and apparently a "Solution" is some kind of big deal to the IDE. What in the world is that?

It was poorly executed. If I were a wittier man I could have done so much more...

Any solid in suspension in a liquid.
idunno...I always use the gcc compiler package, and I've never once heard of it asking for a "solution".
Of course, we never trifle with IDEs. They just get in the way.
I just want to state, for the record, that I have no clue WTF you are talking about. But if I did, I'd help.

Any solid in suspension in a liquid.
no. a suspension is a heterogeneous liquid that has solid particles in it that if left alone will settle, but will remix with agitation. a solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances.

Solution>Project Files> Source Files, descending in that order. Hope that is what you were asking. If not just act like this didn't happen.;)

A solution is kind of like CHANGE. It's all you really need.

That's not new to 2008 I don't think. I think it's set up so that you could have 1-n projects under a solution.
You writing managed C++ or condom-free stuff?

Here's a test - what's a DEI?

Yeah, that's apparently what VS 6 calls a Workspace. Solution is just a dorky name.
You writing managed C++ or condom-free stuff?
Bareback, baby. I'm not entirely sure what managed C++ is (garbage collected?), but I'm just doing simple console apps.
