MMJ is greatness.
The Black Keys.

Also, read a few pages of a WAYLT thread...see what BSG, BRJ, and VK are up to. They have steered me right several times.

I have a few suggestions that will be all over the map: The Republic Tigers, Mae, Sherwood, and Deas Vail.

Saw her at Sasquatch in May. Given the rest of the lineup, she was an odd/interesting act.

I think these kids are gonna get better.

I applaud their attempt.

Crooked X is a local band that is trying to improve their act and working hard to do so. I bought their CD.

No...I'm not joking

I think these kids are gonna get better.

I applaud their attempt.

I hope they improve.

So yeah...I'd like to see them keep at it.

If you need a Top 1000 Industry Machine to feel like you got your money's worth...then fine.

I did that for years...then around 30 years old I started going to Live acts and buying their music. I have been security, roadie and fan.

My IPOD is full. It's got all of the CDs I actually bought on it too.

That's about all I listen too.

Crooked X is a local band that is trying to improve their act and working hard to do so. I bought their CD.

No...I'm not joking.

I have a freind at work who is managing his kids band. He works his butt off to help his kids get gigs, get to gigs and is their critic when they try to belt out a song they can't or shouldn't do. He's a great guy and a great Dad to his Son. I bought their CD too.

That's how these kids keep it going. They work hard. When they suck...they try again the next day.

I hope Def, that if you love music...you have gotten involved when you saw a local band trying.

I never just go..."Those guys suck". If they suck...they know it. If they keep on trying not to suck....then they must be enjoying what they do. If you enjoy it...your gonna get better. That's where I come in. My next door neighbor is an older guy who put a band together. He gave us his CD. And...they suck. They have gotten better though. They keep on trying. One day...I'm gonna buy their CD.

This thread wasn't a competition...it was about new music.

:D

touchy? and seriously, im the last person you need to be giving that speech to. haven't listened to radio since, oh....the invention of the cd player. im in my late twenties, hated mtv, and don't shop for music at best buy. but at the same time, if a band sucks, i have no problem saying it. if people can't take the criticism then they should pack it up and go sell car insurance. but seriously, name a ****ty dive that puts on shows and lets just see if i have never been there. hell, i probably played there at some point. the hole? remember that? played there. got high as **** with joey ramone there. vzd's? music dimensions? green door? conservatory? opolis? i know local music, but that doesn't mean i have to like it.

oh, and this thread wasn't a competition. i thought it was about GOOD new music. ;)

So 80's metal wasn't cool but this crap is?

at least they are doing something different and creative instead of regurgitating the same old tired crap.

its definately not for everyone though and i completely understand that.

let's see, Curly Bill likes hair bands (not "metal", that ain't gonna slide) and hates Obama.

could it be the CB is nostalgic for 1983?

I'm usually very much a "to each his own" kind of person, and would rarely slam someone for their musical preference, figuring anyone's preference is just that, and it's their business. Same thing with anyone that like 80's hair metal, of which I'm not a big fan, but which you saw fit to pick on, thus my picking on one of your choices.

I say to each his own, whatever floats your boat, so on and so forth.

I dj on weekends, mostly wedding receptions, and get a lot of requests for music from all across the spectrum. Last weekend, as the party was going into high gear, dance floor is packed (the crowd had consumed ample lubrication fluid) a young lady asked me to play The Hampster Dance. I have it in my music library but had never played it at an event. I asked her if she was serious. She said she was and told me, "It'll be alright." I put it on and the crowd didn't miss a beat. However, I do not advise anyone to listen to it!

As to the new music question, here's a popular one:

Kid Rock's "All Summer Long" pays tribute to Lynryd Skynyrd and Warren Zevon in a song that combines the music from Werewolves of London with lyrics from Sweet Home Alabama.

I listen to too much instrumental rock right now to really make any suggestions of my own, unless you're into that stuff.
