I will kick all your collective teeth in this year. I will not settle for another 8th place finish.

I'm back in the USA, in body if not mind. I'll try to catch up!

TUSooner

It looks like we've got at least 10 so far. That'll work!
Thanks!

The head-to-head league that they added this year is pretty cool.

Where's the official premier league thread? We're already one game into the season!

JohnnyMack

4th place bitches!!!

Goddammit. For some reason my team seems to have declared the wrong person captain this week. So I got all of 2 points off my goalie when I should have had 16 off Cech. Heh.

illinisooner
8/22/2008, 02:09 PM
What does declaring a captain do? Does it even matter?

JohnnyMack
8/22/2008, 02:11 PM
Yes. Doubles the points.

are you all aware of whats going on at man city?

Scott D
9/4/2008, 10:06 AM
oh with the Arab group taking over and having this fantasy of making Man City elite?

I'm more preoccupied with the drama in Newcastle.

birddog
9/4/2008, 11:00 AM
what happened with the 'pies?

Scott D
9/4/2008, 01:38 PM
timeline

Ashley and Wise sell Milner to Villa for 12M, Keegan insistent that Milner not going anywhere for a week prior to the sale.

Keegan says we can take the Milner money, and we've got about 4 or 5 moves we're looking to make including a semi/big name.

Wise and Ashley end up bringing in two younger players nobody has really heard of from La Liga just before the transfer deadline.

Keegan has meeting with Ashley...where he learns that Wise and Ashley were dangling Joey Barton on the transfer market, and rumored to have seen what kind of takers there were for Michael Owen at the current time. Keegan gets justifiably pissed and ends up storming out.

Brit. media starts reporting that Keegan has quit/been sacked. Newcastle later issues press release saying Keegan hasn't quit or been sacked. Rather he had some serious concerns about recent developments with the club, discussions would be ongoing.

there have now been meetings between Keegan's reps and Ashley's reps the past three days, and Keegan has not shown up to run practice at all this week.

SCAB! SCAB!

don't you hate when your favorite team is a perennial loser?

Scott D

hey, we've finished top four a few times.....last decade. :D

King Kev resigned today.

I'm curious to see what happens to Man City in the next few years. Those guys leave tips bigger than some of Abromovich's(sp) bank accounts.

Scott D

should be fun to watch them try to buy a title.

<knock knock> Hello?
Fair warning: I'm about to make my EPL Fantasy League run to the top. I just don't know whether it's worth it to sell half my team to get Cristiano Ronaldo. He's been the stud for that past 3 years, but I hate to get rid pf practically everybody else just to get him....

Williesan

I hear ya there. He's bloody good, but his start value at 14M is just a bit high.

Di Michele's second goal for West Ham was a beauty - got his own rebound (off the keeper's schnozz) cooly played the ball from left to right around a defender then slotted it home between the post & the keeper + another defenseman. Should make the top 5 goals of the week.

Weird day for me - only one guy in my starting 11... and he nets me 16. Everyone else is slated for Sunday's action so I'll have FSC on in the morning while I work on cleaning up from Hurricane Toddler, part 129856908.

CR's price will go even higher after he plays vs Chelsea :(

Scott D

good thing I picked him up when he was at 13.5 before the season :)

Cam

I would've gladly given up my Chelsea fantasy points for a full 3 for Man Utd today. :(

I'm having some seriously bad luck with keepers so far this year.

Scott D
9/22/2008, 10:13 AM
you had david james also eh?

Williesan

I stayed away from him this year - especially after hearing his nickname in English football circles:

"Calamity James"

Yeah, and Torres is just killing me. I may have to use my wildcard pretty soon and just start over.

Betting against Newcastle has won me a good bit of money here lately. That team is in absolute shambles.

Walk on Liverpool, I say.

And Fox Soccer Channel seems to think that they can continue to torture me by showing Newcastle each week.

In honor of Liverpool ending Chelski's 86 match unbeaten streak at Stamford Bridge, this thread deserves a bump. :D

Bumping since the 09-10 season will be starting in just over a month.

Williesan
7/12/2009, 11:55 AM
Yep - and everyone's going to have to work harder this year for their points since C. Ronaldo is off to Spain.

Let us know when registration re-opens!

I prefer to think that no C. Ronaldo means that there are going to be a lot more affordable options to flesh out better teams.

It's apparently open for next season already. I've got my team, just need to put it in leagues.

Williesan
7/13/2009, 10:16 PM
Yep - registration is now open. TUSooner needs to set up the private league code for the Sooner Fans futbol league. (Since he's graciously done it the last few seasons. ;)

TUSooner

It's the same league name as last year - Sooner Fans.

The code to join is 171914-45806.

THANKS for the reminder. This league is nice weekly distraction and has become a fixture of my (pathetic) life for 9 months of the year. :D

I'm in. I plan on doing better than 6th this year.

Relegated United I hear has a bit of balance.

TUSooner
7/14/2009, 04:19 PM
What am I going to do without Ronaldo ?!?!? He was an easy choice for captain the past few years, even though he didn't haul in quite as many points as usual last year.
Ahhhh! He was too expensive anyway. I think I'll start with Lampard as my main man this season.
We have a month to play around anyway.

Hmm, Has Tevez shown up yet now that he's finally signed with Man City?

EDIT: I did not read the C. Ronaldo posts before I wrote that. :O

Tevez wasn't up yesterday which bummed me forcing me to go with Robbie Keane. Man City is just going to be too difficult to pick a striker from with the way they've been chasing them this summer.

I also passed the infos on to phead since he doesn't come here.

I'm thinking about Keane myself. Strikers are hard to pick because they go hot and cold. Gaby Agbolahor was good for me last year though.

With as little as I did, I'm shocked I was a solid 12th. Putting most of my eggs into the Gerrard/Torres basket was not a good strategy.

I traded my way to mediocrity! My secret was getting the wrong guy at the wrong time on most of my roster moves.
