Was it really as bad as people say it was? I guess I am to young to actually remember what the stuff tasted like, but I can't imagine it being as bad as everyone said it was.

Now crystal Pepsi, that stuff was natty. Err, Nasty, sorry OleVet.

frankensooner
7/18/2008, 02:43 PM
It was very close to Pepsi, without all the burping. My folks had stock-piled original coke, so I never had to go without. I was also quite popular for awhile too. ;)

BigRedJed
7/18/2008, 02:43 PM
Yes. It actually was like a brown-colored crystal Pepsi, if that helps.

Which, since Pepsi tastes like *ss already, it was like drinking a sugary can of double *ss.

I loved New Coke, and have no problem admitting it.

I was a total Coke fanboy at the time, and it was just too different. Overall, it was just a horrible, horrible marketing idea.

I didn't think Crystal Pepsi was all that bad. That whole "clear stuff" fad that hit in the early '90s was funny, though. Was it SNL that had the "crystal gravy" joke?

Of course you did, It had twice as much HFCS in it! ;)

Hmmm, so it was pretty bad then huh. I think I have a bottle or two of Crystal Pepsi up in the attic somewhere.

P.S. PEPSI PWNS COKE

They make a crappy product that, through marketing, they make people think is teh awesome?

RC is excellent.

Good, we have some common ground... Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb?

frankensooner
7/18/2008, 03:01 PM
I like both. So don't be hatin on me for that. (Mr. Pibb is a coke product you see) It is hard to beat the original though. I would put Dr Pepper ahead by a nose.

Nah, really a can barely taste the difference.

New Coke was flat and too sweet, much like Pepsi and the child molester that did their ads in the '80's.

And RC is good, the Natty of colas.

BigRedJed

i had a free case of Crystal Pepsi, it wasn't bad

i didn't realize it at the time, but New Coke was apparently a direct result of the Pepsi Challenge that Coke got pwn3d on. the problem was that with just a sip, sweetness is preferred. if the taste test was a whole can, or a whole case at home, the results change

i was a Pepsi person for years though, it's weird, now i like Coke better.

i remember back in the day how happy everyone was when you could buy Coca Cola Classic

Pibb > Pepper >>> Thunder

oh and Superman wouldn't break a sweat killing Batman if he really wanted to

That was Coke's plan all along. They never really intended to replace Classic Coke. It was all a big marketing scheme to drum up consumer interest in Coke. And it worked - I was working in a grocery store at the time, and we sold truckloads of old Coke by the case before it happened, and we sold truckloads when they brought it back. It was a big joke to us.

All I have to say is this:

Before New Coke, real Coke had real fkn' sugar in it.

After New Coke, real Coke had HFCS in it.

Go figure. The greedy mother****ers got one by, and most of us never realized until it was too late.

I hope they burn in Hell, don't you?

Whether or not it was their plan, I think Coke came out a winner from the whole thing. Before New Coke, Coke had become uncool with the whole Pepsi challenge and the "new generation" thing.

I drank Pepsi at the time because for some reason I thought I liked it better. Then when the original Coke came back I realized just how much more I liked Coke with the slightly less sweet and more burn/fizzy. Ever since then, when given a choice, I've drunk Coke. I suspect I wasn't the only one.

I have a bit of a Diet Coke addiction, that's what I drank anytime I've traveled out of the U.S. It tastes a little different depending on where you go because of different countries' rules about artificial sweeteners.
