It's not my cup of tea, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I just think it's funny that you're a Potterhead. It's one of your many contradictions.

(Do Potterheads ever spend a whole year following JK Rowling around on her book tours?)

Some old lady at an airport turned me on to HPANA a couple years ago. I saw her reading one of the books and struck up a conversation. And yes, I've checked out Leaky Cauldron, Veritaserum, and a couple others. Even visited a couple that are in Portuguese and some other foreign crap.

Emphasis both on the packer fan part... and the MALE part.

I am like Dean's little Packer cheering sister. Whenever a Packer hater comes around, all I have to do is ask big brother Dean to beat him up.

Packer fan little brothers, however, get beat up in the name of brotherly rivalry.

Thus, you question dean, you die. I question Dean (in a very light hearted manner, mind you) and I live! :D

Oh, and Favre can't play in the Metrodome. It's his curse that he must live with. His dome play is awful. Moving to Minny would be a choice.

I still can't get off the floor after reading about Jed's facial.

Favre better not be like all the other losers (Emmit Smith, etc) who spend their crap years somewhere besides where they earned their HOF wings. That being said, if I had my way he'd start for GB, play a series or two, then hand it over to Rodgers. Seeing him in anything other than a GB uniform would pain me greatly. I can't even look at his early pics in the Atlanta uniform. On a sidenote, don't you think the Atlanta brass has kicked themselves in the *** ten brazillion times for dumping him?

Oh, yes definitely. Atlanta kicks itself in arse in more ways than Favre dumping. For example, the Michael Vick thing. For another example, the nearly-running-out-of-water thing. For another example, the Civil War burning-city-to-the-ground thing. For yet another example, the Katrina evacuees and the crime they brought with them.

Atlanta sports is phail. The only success ATL sports have is Madden cursed (Vick again)or false hope (losing record Hawks in the playoffs vs. Celtics to game 7). Screw Atlanta sports.

(why yes, i DO remember that playoff game where the Falcons beat the Packers in Lambeau Field and yes i AM still bitter about it! Why are you suddenly bringing that up after I trash Atlanta sports teams? Oh, and Atlanta also sucks for stealing the Braves from Milwaukee. BUT HANK AARON IS OURS, D@MMIT!)

To all my fellow HP lovers, I'm going to Harry Potterland at Universal in June. I'll report back, if you'd like. I can tell you I've already been on Flight of the Hippogrif and The Dragon thingy rollercoaster many times, under different names. My fave is the blue dragon (formerly known as "Ice"), but they're both worth the wait in line. The new thing will be the castle, which we've watched being built over the last year or two, along with Hogsmeade, and I can tell you, just what we've seen from the detour routes, they will both be unbelievable, just like stepping into the book. Can't wait!! Go to universalorlando.com, they have a great preview of everything. I love Universal, hands down, no contest. Disney is a total "meh" to me, doesn't even compete, imo.

Only 164 days, and 9 hours until the first DH movie comes out.

And how can you already have been on those rides when they were built for this park?

Well, they were sort of repurposed. Flight of the Hippogrif used to be The Flying Unicorn, a "kiddie" rollercoaster, and Dragon Challenge used to be Dueling Dragons--aka Fire (the red one) and Ice (the blue one). They are the kind that your feet dangle free, they both take off at the same time and intertwine as they loop-de-loop. The old Fire and Ice rides used to have a castle that you went thru until you had to "choose your fate", where they split off into lines for each coaster. They added on and remodeled that castle to look like Hogwarts, and wow, it really does, the detail is amazing. Now the new ride is "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" which will wind thru the castle, thru all the rooms we know, Dumbledore's office, etc. with holographic visits by Dumbledore and later, Harry, Ron and Hermione. Beyond that, they haven't really said exactly what the "ride" part is, I'm guessing some kind of 3D type thing ala The Simpsons or Spiderman, where you're moving in a car, and screens are moving around you. IDK, I'll tell ya after we go in a couple weeks. All I know is, if you're coming to Orlando, blow off Disney and head for Universal, better rides hands down, plus they let you drink beer while you wait. Allsome.

C&CDean
6/8/2010, 08:12 AM
I read in the Parade that you sit on a wooden bench and you really don't know if you're moving or everything is moving around you. The author said it was very realistic. He said you play a little quidditch following Harry and Ron, and they stop and duel a dragon, some dementers, etc.

I'll wait for all the buzz to die down then come check it out.

I don't know which is worse, Harry Potter or Twilight.

You really can't be serious.

Harry Potter will be long remembered as one of the best series of books ever written in children's literature. The later books are not light reading, but there is an infectious compulsion to read on. And, with the foreshadowing and emerging plot, you can see that J.K. Rowling expects the reader to grow up with the characters. I think J.R.R. Tolkien's works were very much similar.

The only thing that really bugs me about the Harry Potter series of books is a persistent theme of not trusting adults.

In my opinion, Twilight seems more about teenage angst. Honestly, I read two of the books and I just couldn't stand reading any more. There is just so much whining, complaining, crying that I can take. I am very, very happy that I never had a teenage daughter.

Pick up the Sorcerer's Stone and read it. Then get back to me. Like Chuck said, the HP series is one of the best ever written. You'd have to be a troll or a goblin to not enjoy it.

Couldn't tell you anything about the Twilight books/movies cause the whole vampire/teen love thing isn't my bag. However, if they're really well written, I could probably make it through them.

The Princess LOVES Harry. She didn't so much as want to read a page of Twilight and for Allison to not want to read something is significant. (Her school invented an award to recognize her usage of the library. No kidding). Blissfully, I have thus avoided sparkly-Twicrap.

I read HP. At first, it was just to be sure that it was okay for her to read. But JK writes a good story. If you're still on the fence, go forth and read it. You'll read 'em all.
