View Full Version : Some Dickwheel Ran Up Charges On My About To Expire AmEx Card

I received my new card a few weeks ago (old one expired at the end of June). As always, I cut the old card up with scissors into ten or twelve little pieces and put in the trash.

One June 12 and June 18, said dickwheel racked up some charges on my account. I assume the DW got the card out of my trash and pieced it back together. How in the hell was he able to use a card that had been cut into 10 or 12 pieces? All the charges were in Montreal, Canada.

The strangest charge? $9.90 at a Burger King in Montreal.

So I spent a half hour last night explaining to the AmEx customer service lady in Manila that I have never been to Montreal, and I have not been there in the last two months. "Never" would include the last 60 days but maybe the translation didn't take.

How would a criminal enterprising sumbitch use a card like this? Once a card is cut or shredded, doesn't all that magnetic stripe info. on the back become worthless?

So, you can just go into a Burger King and TELL them your credit card number, and they will accept it? That's good to know.

that's why I throw away some pieces at home in different trash cans and some pieces at work.

I heard of a guy once who traveled and would put one piece in the trash of his departure airport and one piece in his arrival airport.

I cut the number part out in its own strip, and then cut each number off individually.

Why throw them away at all? They make wonderful collar stays.

shred them

credit card capable shredders are not that expensive

and the small charge at BK, that sounds like a test charge, basically they were seeing if the card even worked

I do a first cut horizontally through the numbers and then cut everything else up vertically. That way all the numbers get mangled.

Sometimes it is fun to take those postage paid envelopes and put about 10 pennies in them.
