I know this is a joke but I actually used to wonder if there was a tiny chance that they staged at least the first landing considering they were dangerously close to Kennedy's deadline.

But after watching all the various NASA shows that have been on recently it's painfully obvious that there is absolutely no way that they could have done that. You had 400,000 people working on the project. Of those, there would have probably had to be hundreds (if not thousands) minimum who would have had to be in on the scheme.

The one show they had on yesterday talked about the error code they received while landing the lunar lander. Nobody at mission control knew what the error code was but one person at MIT knew it. So in that area there's no way they could fake that without including every one of the MIT navigational people. That's not to mention that MIT was getting information from their onboard navigational computers.

Multiply that by scores of other groups and you can see it would have been simply impossible.

Oh, and we also have mirrors placed on the moon that scientists around the world have used. Given, those could have been done in later landings and/or unmanned landing but you get the point.
