I was looking over the 47 game win streak years the other day, and realized that going into the 5th game of the 1954 season, OU was ranked #1 (and had been since the end of the first week). We beat Kansas State 21-0 in Norman, and fall back to #2. The next week we go to Boulder and beat CU 13-6, and fall back to #3, where we stay all season and end up at the end of the year after our 10-0 season.

OSU wins the AP title that year with a matching 10-0 record. Not sure who was second, but likely UCLA who won the UPI poll.

Maybe that BCS thing isn't so bad.

Ya the only team that can really 100% truly complain or have a somewhat decent of an argument is 04-05 Auburn because they went undefeated and played in the SEC. Only thing that happened bad was their preseason ranking. That is why preseason rankings do mean something.
As for anybody else who has ever had a case, they should have just not lost. Boise and Hawaii do not qualify.

Boise State does qualify and played a good schedule....much better than a lot of other 1A schedules. I know the times have changed, but if this was the 80s and considering Boise was undefeated, they would be national champions. Boise was indeed screwed....they went undefeated yet it was parity that screwed them over.

Other qualifiers......1994 Penn State, 1987 Syracuse, 1983 Auburn (1 loss) just to name a few.

Boise State still had no case to play in the national title game that year. Their conference is garbage, you might say its not their fault. Well play some good non conference games. They beat us on a feel good story, David vs the giant. I don't care if they would have killed us. They still don't play a hard conference schedule. Put them in the big 12 or sec and they were a 500 team that year. The only recent team that qualifies for debate is Auburn.

Are you saying undefeated Auburn does not qualify ?

Boise State played quite a schedule which included a thrashing of Oregon State....who went 10-2 including a big win over USC.

So whats your point? They had the best game of their regular season and Oregon State had their worst game. Have Boise play the pac 10 schedule the entire season. Can you honestly say they make a BCS bowl in the big 12, sec, acc, pac 10 , big 10, or big east. honestly. We freaking lost. If we play them 10 times, we win 8.

What everyone forgets about that Auburn team is that they played crap OOC foes, while OU and USC had pretty decent OOC schedules.

Since all those teams had the same record, Auburn SHOULD have been left out. Didn't they play the Citadel that season?

Oh I totally agree, that we and usc were most deserving to be in the game. I'm just saying in recent years Auburn is the only REAL team that can say "we won every game and didn't get to the national title." Boise and Hawaii had no case in my personal opinion. The out of conference schedule they played really had nothing to do with it. They were ranked between like 10-15 pre-season wise. Thats what killed them. Auburn is in the SEC, all that matters.

Couldn't even shut out The Citadel.... That should end the argument.

Haha I'm just saying its more rare for 3 teams from BCS conferences to be undefeated at the end of the regular season, as opposed to every team in the league having at least 2 losses, like this past year.

In 1998 Tulane went 12-0. They ended up being ranked 10th.

Sure they had a weak schedule. Still.

They don't compare to 04 OU, usc, or Auburn.

Well, duh. That's what makes it sarcasm.
