A big part of Ronald Reagan's rise to power and success. Had a few warts, but don't we all? Fitting that he passed on the 4th. RIP.

i lived in Durham, NC in 91-92 and i don't share y'all's enthusiasm for the career of Jesse Helms--and call it considerably more than "warts". but, i do respect the deceased and his family and someone who served his country/constituents in the way he thought was best.

that's what an elected official is supposed to do. represent, popular or unpopular with the national "audience".

You're right, he had obvious shortcomings. I only wanted to give him credit where it was due. He wasn't a villian, only a man who occasionally exposed himself as a relic of another time.
